Are registration charges (stamp duty) tax-deductible in the US?
I know that property tax and interest paid (for an apt purchased in India) can be deducted, but is the registration stamp duty also deductible?

US Visitor Health Insurance for parents with and without pre-existing condition
Thanks for the feedback ... yes, I understand the difference between the two options.
My folks won't be needing the pre-existing coverage (touch wood) ... and the fixed coverage appears to meet their needs.

US Visitor Health Insurance for parents with and without pre-existing condition
I've looked at fixed vs comprehensive insurance coverage and have narrowed it down to:
Fixed coverage:
Inbound USA
kvrao
Comprehensive coverage:
Patriot America
Would like to hear any thoughts/opinions if you've used any of the above insurance companies and your experiences.

Transferring $ to India
This is my share of the moolah from Modi's IPL :p Seriously, the question re: scrutiny was because I don't want my parents to end up spending time/effort in answering/clarifying questions. As you can tell, I have not done this before ... hence the queries. [QUOTE=Desi;287184]I presume you are ...

Transferring $ to India
I am looking to transfer $10k to my parents over the next 6 months in 3-4 tranches. Is there a dollar amount beyond which any money transferred to India might additional scrutiny by the powers that be? This money is for their personal use.

Where to apply for a car loan?
This is for a friend who has been living in the US for the past 3 years and is here on a H1 visa. His car loan application (at Bank of America) was denied ... they told him he needs to be either a citizen or have a permanent residency number to apply for the auto loan. I thought this was an odd ...

Odd ... so the guy forgot how cricket is played once he set foot in the US? [QUOTE=dbs;165176] He instead asked him about the cricket. The response was that it was the first channel that he switched on but the guys were playing in a funny fashion. They would hit the ball and then throw ...

Problems with Reliance India Call?
Has anybody experienced these problems: - Takes multiple attempts before the call is connected (to a landline in India) - I never hear the phone ringing before they pick up the phone (tried several numbers in different cities ... all have the same problem). This isn't a big deal, but is ...

Can I claim an exemption for mortgage interest on an apartment in India?
I've just about finalized the purchase of an apartment in Chennai ... and wanted to see if I can claim an exemption for the interest payments when I file my taxes in April 2011. Will the bank (HDFC) give me a 1098 similar to what we get from the US banks?
Cheers!
