To ship...or not to ship?
I have moved to India and brought a lot of stuff. Now I think I should not have brought so much. It is true that for the same quality you have to pay 30% to 50% more. But then shipping is expensive and a big hassle. My company paid for the shipping but it was a lump sum amount and I could have spent ...

School Transfer certificate
Please talk to the Indian school to drop the requirement of this certificate. This really does not make sense. Ask someone (family) to visit the school personally and talk to the principal. This is ridiculous requirement from the school. Also try to get admission in another school if they don't agree.

MT: Simple / Silly Indian Tax question
Recently my company has deducted tax for ESOPs even when I have not sold any of those ESOPs. They have calculated tax based on FMV on purchase date - purchase price as income which is taxed. Is this how it is done in India? How should I show this in my US tax return when I finally sell my options?

Wireless Broadband services in India
You can use Reliance wireless broadband+ It gives around 2Mbps speed in most major cities. Pre-paid card is easy to get and quite reliable, you might some office help to get address proof etc. I am not sure about the Vonage though, if vonage requires ethernet, it might be difficult to share this ...

Check if there is some misunderstanding. Maybe they have included extra month's rent or something by mistake. Please don't let your credit ruined due to this.

Water purifier
I haven't seen any real study of lead content of water from water heater. But I think it is better to take cold water and heat it in the microwave. Anyway, see this video for a comparison of Tap vs bottled water. [url]http://www.fastcompany.com/1593405/annie-leonards-story-of-bottled-water-should ...

Look for the yearly water quality report from your water company. The SJ water company claims that their water is as good as or better than bottled water, and I think I agree. No need to purify the water AT ALL, also you can save the environment from empty bottles.

Can NRI/USC/OCI invest in agricultural/ farmland /revenue land
This is a great thread... I am planning to buy a farmhouse in Maharashtra, the land is marked as agricultural. I am USC but resident of India (employed in India since Aug 2008). My in-laws are farmers (farming is their only source of income). I guess it should be ok to buy this property? Does my ...

Barbeque Grills in India
Using LPG for propane is unsafe. I had contacted weber before I R2Ied and they informed me this. Also there is some info on the internet.
I got a weber gold charcoal grill, it is lying unused in a box. :-(. Does anybody want my grill? :-)
