MT: Dual taxation question
Hi Folks, I have a strong feeling this would be a FAQ but tried searching for this info for the last 1.5 hrs but not been able to get my search right. :-( I am a USC-R2I in ROR status. I worked for an MNC while in US and have continued to work for the India sub after R2I (which was ~5 yrs ago). I ...

Rajesh Answers : General Indian Tax Laws & Regulations for NRI
Hi Rajesh, Thanks for your well-considered reply. I have a question about a couple of your points and then further info about another. 3 & 4: Although the stock vests in the US brokerage account, isn't it disputable to consider it "Global Income" wholesale? That is, the reason why I am getting it in ...

Rajesh Answers : General Indian Tax Laws & Regulations for NRI
Rajesh, Other Experts, Sorry if this is a FAQ but multiple attempts to perform search did not yield much. Also, I am not sure this is the best place to post the question (as thread title says NRI but I am a USC, LIA). My basic question is regarding situations where a person returns to work for an ...

MT: Tax for US Citizen living in India
I paid $245. Their pricing depends on the number of different things they have to work on ... for e.g., for a simple H1, worked 6-mths in US type return, I have heard people pay as little at $45. Another friend paid $150. They also told me that their price includes all anciliary work that needs to ...

MT: Tax for US Citizen living in India
As fyi, I ended up using the following CPA: http://www.usindiatax.com/index.jsp. They did a great job of what, to me, was quite a complicated return. (On another note, finding out from them that IRS owes me a refund helped ease the deadline pressure too.) Most of the interaction with them ...

I used them and they did a great job of my (what was to me a fairly complicated) tax return. Plus they are setup to do everything over the web/phone/fax ... so you don't have to be in Pune to avail of their services. (For e.g., I took camera picts of w2s, 1099s, etc. and uploaded to a folder on ...

MT: Person of India origin (PIO) card discussion
How old is your son? If well below 16 ... there's no urgency to get even a PIO card ... just a regular valid visa is sufficient. If you do get a PIO card *and* he's > 16 then while he's in India he will have to register with the local FRRO regularly (every 6 months). If he gets an OCI card instead ...

Some place earlier on this (or another) thread there was a comment that entering a friend's address may cause issues when you claim 'substantial presence' outside US later. May be there's a workaround to that ... perhaps one could file with friend's address and later write to IRS that the address ...

Guys - I was lazing around thinking sometime close to due date I can just initiate an e-payment that's the equivalent of "here's my name & SSN ... here's my bank info, please take xyz dollars from it on 4/15" ... but I just went through the EFTPS enrollment site and, guess what, tough luck ...
