I was thinking of the reasons for Viru's slump over the last year or so. Some of my random thoughts:

He has been successful is slashing outside the off-stump for a long time, getting runs by hits over slip and the opposition have taken notice of this and are prepared. Now, he is having a tough time to curb this "natural" instinct for himself and gets out easily.

One more thing I have noticed is that he has put on a lot of weight. He needs to loose 20-30 pounds. I believe that this extra weight is causing him mental, psychological and physical stress in that he is not as agile as earlier. This decrease in mobility I believe is affecting all aspects of his game, eg, the quicknessin reacting to a ball bowled at him. There have been "over weight" players - Inzamam comes to mind - but, I think Inzy was always like that.

He took his place in the team for granted, this is not true only for Viru, it is an Indian syndrome given the cricket crazy fans.

Another good innings by Dada. Do people have still doubts about his great comeback ? He proved yet again that his comeback is for real and that he is a great fighter.

I declare he is my hero - as long as he has fire in his belly and keeps up his winning efforts for the team.

Tendulkar just had a hat-trick hitting FOURS !! Good to see him peak at the right time. Not sure whether AirTel has something to do with it. :)

He will be my hero too if he shows his old shades again.

So..If India loses this game, its still Tendulkar's fault right? I mean, instead of going for a massive sacrificial six off the last ball, he hit only a single to get a selfish 100...

Tendu is baack with a century !!!. 100th run made on the last ball. He signalled his return with a quick-fire 100. Now that's what I call a winning effort.

Thats the way .aha aha .. we like it aha aha.. :)

Amazing inning from Tendulkar and wow.... Dhoni is unbelievable.... Nothing could be better to see Tendu finish off with a century.... Dhoni stole the 2nd run and made tendulakar face the ball on 99. Excellent sportsmanship :)

Nice to see some of you guys getting excited about tendulkar and India. I think the biggest positive of this game was the strategy India laid... and went on with a game plan and mission. Dravid played anchor man and Ganguly scored.... Again Tendulkar came and continued where Gangu left off...... Dhoni came and Tendulkar played anchor role wow... Everything looked so well planned...

Hope India continues its path.... Three cheers for India and Tendulkar...

I am kinda worried about the Indian team being over confident going into the world cup after playing on the placid indian pitches.

According to experts, the pitches in WI are getting slower and slower as they are being relaid. Gone are the fast and bouncy pitches of the yester-year West Indies. So, the pitches should suit India more than it used to before.

India can never be complacent as they have big issues in every department. Batting depends on sachin, dravid and ganguly (include dhoni also) with a few younsters like gambhir, karthick, or uthappa chipping in. If the seniors get out, then there is a dramatic collapse as emphasized by the 3rd one-day match. That has happenned many times and can't be dismissed as a one-time thing. So, if the top 5-6 players don't play till the end of 50th over, we fold very easily like a deck of cards. Fielding is average at best (couple of exceptions) and can make a huge difference in close games. Bowling is very sketchy with no consistency at all. Can't even think of one bowler as a match winner even though it should be a team effort. India as a team is very streaky. No team can win consistently without the proper team effort, classic example being Australia. If the star players play well, others chip-in and clobber the bowling in the slog overs to post huge totals. If the star players happen to fail, others still chip-in and post reasonable, defendable totals. They clearly have an advantage with their superior bowling, but it is the team effort that outshines everything else.

He has been dropped a few times too.

When was that ? He was dropped once and I believe that was coupled with shoulder dislocation.

He is a shrewd businessman. He will know when its time to quit.

No he's not, his brother manages everything. This guy breathes, thinks cricket. He has admitted in the past that he doesn't know what to do if he stops playing cricket. He's shrewd only on the cricket field and tactics, He wasn't shrewd enough to captain the team.

I also agree this is not a time to drop Sachin with WC round the corner. Lets just hope that he is saving his best for the world cup.

This is all I have been saying recently. And after the WC prove that he's not performing by looking at facts rather than what you think the facts are.

India won the only world cup without Sachin in 1983. Another cup that comes close to WC was also won without him : 1985 Benson and Hedges world cup.

In 1983 Sachin was 10 years old and in 1985 he was 12 years old. He played cricket only in 1989.

Indian wins were 6-0 thrashing of SriLanka, 5-1 thrashing of England, 4-1 thrashing of Pakistan etc and the historic test series win against WI in WI. These were achieved through the winning efforts of others. Most of those wins were attributed to Yuvi, Pathan, Dravid, Dhoni etc.

I have said this again and again, that you have faint memory. In the 1st 2 matches against SL sachin making a comeback helped us win that. In pakistan Sachin made a 100 (out of 328) in a losing cause batting first, Obviously apart from Pathan and Dhoni nobody contributed on a batting pitch. Pakistan won by D/L. In an another match Tendulkar made 95 on a difficult pitch which had Imran for the first time ever say Inzi should learn from SRT. Till that point in time Imran used to say Inzi is better than Sachin because Inzi wins matches for his country. In that match Imran said Sachin led from the front on a difficult pitch and showed how to score runs. Inzi on the other hand waited till half his team was out to enter the ground. Sachin didn't play the England and WI series. You seem to be trashing Sachin for the matches he wasn't playing. I am tired of pointing people's biases

Just a gentle reminder to the folks who think Indian team is nothing without Sachin:

Your memory is poor and you remind people. Why don't you check facts before you say something.

I did that analysis few months ago and put it on this forum, but obviously I am biased.

Mohinder had an OK career (average of 30 just a shade below Sehwag), but that's not surprising when people like Kirti Azad who scored 269 runs in 25 matches at an average of 14 don't hesitate to criticise SRT. Mohinder must have said something which samachar.com might have spiced it up. Difficult imagining someone who has played substantially accuse SRT. Never got to read that link (maybe I hacked that site to protect SRT from the evils of the world).
