MT: OCI for Children, Infants

Post by nikhil »

Hello all.

We are planning to return in June of this year and had a question regarding OCI cards.

My wife and I are both Indian citizens and our children hold American Passports because they were born here. I am planning to apply for OCI for both my kids. While filling up the OCI application I noticed that they have asked to list dependent children on ONE application. Since neither I nor my wife are applying for an OCI, my question is can I use just ONE application to apply for OCI cards for BOTH my children or does this have to be done as two separate applications? It is also a matter of the fees associated with 2 applications as opposed to 1.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Nikhil,

My understanding is that in order for children to get OIC, at least one parent must get an OIC (i.e be a foreign citizen), so your children in this case will not be granted OIC.

Your option may be PIO. You also should check the MT on OICs over here. MT: OIC - Overseas Indian Citizenship

Desi is correct.

I applied for OCI for my son, last November and they rejected my application (coz both parents are Indian Citizens). Then I went ahead got PIO for him.

This rule came in recently. People who applied for OCI in the initial time got it.

Thanks

I am getting confused with the language used in CGNY. Parents are Indian citizen with Green Card. Kids US Citizen. Are they eligible for OCI?

The kids under 18 can't get the OCI unless one of the parent is a Foreign Citizen.

Mr. Reddula / Jaya,

Were you able to travel with your minor children without renewing the OCI card?
I am in the same situation and I have to travel in 3 days time. Should I get an Entry visa instead?

I greatly appreciate your response.
