Well I start with one of my favourites songs....

Surmai Sham

Surmai shaam is tarah aaye,
Saans lete hain jis tarah saaye!

Koi aahat nahin badann ki kahin,
Phir bhee lagtaa hain too yehin hain kahin,
Waqt jaata sunaai detaa hain,
Tera saaya dikhai detaa hain!
Jaise khushboo nazar se chhoo jaye!
Saans lete hain jis tarah saaye!

Wonderful words of Gulzar and music by one of my favourite music directors Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar............. .....sung by Suresh Wadkar....

http://www.musicindiaonline.com/p/x/5VKmMTg41S.As1NMvHdW/

It is from film Lekin directed by Gulzar himself....

Wonderful song that flows to listeners' heart smoothly.......Rich silken voice of Suresh Wadkar.....just everything is right about the song.....

It is a great listening - wonderful flow right through.......

It is a song by a person about his love lost long back.....he still feels it very much... he is intrigued by why / how.....wonderfully expressed......

Listen while besides a quietly flowing stream of water or a seaside..... a perfect sunset and this song......divine experience...

Songs of Lekin are brilliant but this wins me over the most.....even against the great Yara Sili Yara Sili

This week I list some of the all time favourites of mine....hope some of the members also share my choice....

1. Dil dhhondata hai, phir wahi fursat ke raat din.. Film: Mausam

An evergreen an refreshing song....simple and melodious

2. Nahi samne ye alag baat hai, mere paas hai tun mere paas hai... mere sath hai

This is a classic from AR Rehman in Film Taal......wonderful song...

3. Tujhese naraaj nahi zindagi heraan hun mein

This song from Masoom must bring a few memories for quite a few people.....

4. Wo jab yaad aaye, bahot yaad aaye
Gama-ye-jindagee ke, andhere mein hum hain
Chiraaga-ye-mohabbat jalaaye, buzaaye

An old song.....from 60s....Film Parasmani.....Rafi and Lata and music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal (their first released movie)....movie I bet no one remembers but the songs were superhit specially the above and Hasta Hua Nurani Chehara

5. And this song is even older from 1959 movie Barsaat ki Raat.....not the Barsaat ki ek Raat....

Zindagee bhar naheen bhoolegee wo barasaat kee raat
Ek Anajaan Musaafir se Mulaakaat kee Raat
Haay jis Raat Mere Dil ne Dhadakanaa Sikhaa
Shaukh Jazabaat ne Seene mein Bhadakanaa Sikhaa

I dont know what's there in the old songs.....you remember those forever and some of them could be from an era before you were born....

Garaj Baras pyaasi dharti ko

Album: Insight
Singer: Jagjit Singh
Lyrics: Nida Fazli

Insight is arguably contains the most philosphical set of gazhals by Padmabhushan Jagjit Singh. And the most I like is the elusive metaphoric

Garaj baras pyaasi dharti par fir paani de maula
Chidiyo ko daane bachho ko gud-dhaani de maula

Do aur do ka jod hamesha chaar kaha hota hai
Soch samajhwalo ko thodi nadani de maula

Wow.....where does this come from....simply superb...and couldnt imagine this being sung by anyone other than the king of ghazals....

Listen it here http://www.dishant.com/album/Jagjit_Singh_-_Insight.html

MeraNaseebR2I;16478Among the classic rock - Lynyrd Skynyrd and Credence Clearwater Revival
Skynyrd's 'Free Bird' is on my top 10 list of classic rock.

CCR is great... Tina Turner has sung a couple of their greats ''Proud May', 'Heard it on the grapevine' very well too.

(Track titles may be wrong. I'm very poor w/ lyrics and titles...)

Not sure b2b , if you remember this song ...
ROSHAN TUMHI SE DUNIYA
RAUNAT TUMHI JAHANKI
PHOOLON MEIN PAL NE WALI ........
SALAMT RAHO~~~~~
Mohammad Rafi has sung as many as 350 songs only with Music Director, Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

The trio (RAFI, Laxmi & Pyare) produced some classic gems for the music lovers....

Roshan Tumhi Se is up there in that list....

Remember songs from Dosti (1964) ??? LP (Laxmi-Pyare) has used the ragas from Hindustani Classical music and made it sound so simple to create immortal songs....

1) Raahi Manawa Dukhti Chinta Kyon Satati Hai...........
2) Mera To Jo Bhi Kadam Hai .
3) Jane Walo Zara Muda Ke Dekho Muze
4) Chahunga Main Tuze Sanz Savere .
5) Meri Dosti Tera Pyar, Koi Jab Raah Na Paye

Kabhi Kabhie (1976)
Musical Score: Khayyam
Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi

Kabhie Kabhie - Mukesh,
Lata MangeshkarKabhie Kabhie (Poem) - Amitabh Bhachchan
Main Pol Do Pal Ka Shayar - Mukesh

This movie was super hit and the music .....well it won three filmfare awards - all for its unforgettable songs - Khayyam, Sahir and Mukesh won award for music, lyrics and voice....Sahir Ludhianvi was not a mere lyricist...he was a poet and he outdid himself with simple, touching, meaningful songs in Kabhie Kabhie
