Post by fellowtraveler »

One of my relatives (female) will be travelling to Norwich, UK for 2 months, dec07-jan08 on an IT assignment. She asked me what she needed to take with her. Can some folks suggest items to pack? (Food, clothing, utensils, others). I could have been help it were US. (Her husband and a 3yr old will stay in India). Thanks for any help.

The things to bring from India that comes to mind is contact lense solution, which is about 4-5 times more expensive if one uses it, the thing one should avoid bringing from India is clothing i-e bulky jackets and sweaters, blackets..etc ec. These items can be purchased within £10-15 of good quality in stores such as Primark and can be discarded on your return. Yes they would cost a fortune if you were to shop in Marks, gap, debanams etc etc.
Norwich i am not very sure of but we get all the Indian food in almost every city of UK , you might have to look a lil bit harder out there, but we are a huge minority in the UK. Obviously cigarretes and alcohol is considerably cheaper in India if one is into those evils.
The thing to avoid in Norwich is venturing out at night as there are several reports of racial abuse with alot of jobs going to outsiders in the Norwich Union company based there and with winter set in and the thing to take into account is it gets dark at 4o'clock, your major priority should be suitable location of your accomodation. Other than that basic food is cheaper than India believe it or not. In short there is nothing other than ur basic cosmetics, antiseptics, one course of antibiotics a broad mind and a sense of humour i would bring from India. I wish you well and hope all goes well.
