Annual Credit Report from India

Post by astrix »

Hi,

After R2I, I decided to check my credit report just to make sure there is no identity theft related to SS #. I was using AnnaulCreditReport.com, the govt sponsored free credit report web site when i was in US. When I tried to access this web site from India, I got a screen with just this message on it

The AnnualCreditReport.com website is only accessible through
ISPs (Internet Service Providers) located within the United States and its territories.

Ofcourse, I can send the requets thru a mail or call a 800 phone number,
but wondering is there a workaround for online access.

Thanks.

I was thinking it makes more sense to freeze your credit report after R2I.

I had thought the website will work from India. Now that we know that the site is not accessible from India, what do we do?

Use some US based free proxy just to access this site

I plan to do the following when I r2i.

1) Opt out of all mail offers for good - need to send a letter (certified mail?)! cannot do this (can do temp optout) on web. find out how at

https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t

2) Freeze your credit by working with experian, etc (a freeze does not stop the promotional offers that go through the credit companies). Send 3 certified mails (one for each credit company).

check whether your state has a freeze law at
http://FinancialPrivacyNow.org

and help them if you can.
