Dilemma : Rethink R2I for political reasons
Dilemma : Rethink R2I for political reasons
I am thinking of R2I in the next few years. However looking at the growing rowdy-ism in politics and political instability, I don't see a good future for India. How many of you think the same. I know many of you will say this has been there for long.. but I personally think this is getting out-of-control. Looks like India is becoming more dangerous to live in day-by-day. Am I correct in my judgment. Can we have discussion on this?

It will be better of R2Ied folks comment on their brushes with the political or the law and order situation and how it has affected them. Then, this thread will yield some useful data points rather than being a thread to beat up the Indian system. Thanks.

I see that you are from Detroit.. Have you walked on the streets near Comerica Park, Ford Field, Detroit City Airport or for that matter anywhere in the Detroit City (Spirit Airlines hub for a long time) and felt safe in daylight on a weekday?? (Not when the games are on).

OP,
Looks like you are from Detroit. Detroit, as per todays news is the most dangerous city in the U.S.A:emsad: So why worry moving to India???:emwink:
Anyway , jokes apart, I feel your moving back should not be influenced by things like Polatical rowdieism etc. As you yorself said it is not new to India. Some times I also feel sad because it is my country and these guys are ruining my country. To that extent it is disturbing. If we are planning to go back then I feel the reasons should be stronger that those that get influenced by irritents like this

OP-
In my view the political system was never good. I hope you are referring to party politics and coalition of parties. I do not think it became worse than before. It may have the same if not improved. Some of my observations are:
1) See how many "for so sure? politicians are defeated - a lot as compared to pre 1990s
2) How many MLAs or ministers are thrown out of post due to non qualifying criteria or fraud - This was never heard of before but now you hear a few.
3) There are reports of many busted for corruption by anti corruption itself.
4) A common man is now a day seems quit aware and educated about his rights and able to raise voice.
Point I am trying to make is - The situation may not be improving as population density is considered but certainly it is not becoming worse. I would like to hear from your experience and observations if there is something I am not aware about.

Political instability and rowdyness is definitely important when you consider R2I. Trust me, there will be numerous instances when followers of political leaders will cause trouble for you.
Every city in India is plastered with huge cutouts and hoardings of political leaders. Most of this is handywork of the followers. If you look at these party workers, you will realize that they are very poor young men with enromous faith in their leader.
They thrive on rowdysm. They are too stupid to argue with and can swear much loudly that you can.
While I do intend to contest elections myself, I would advice anybody to stay away from ANY political rally. If you decide to R2I, ensure that you don't become friends/enemies of any party worker even if you love their leader.

Yes. I used to work in Detroit BlueCrossBlueSheld for well over 1-1/2 years. Never had a problem. Yes I do read reports like Detroit is very unsafe yada-yada... but that is no comparison to Indian situation. Imagine this, a political leader loses election and his followers burn state buses, public cars..and loot shops... what if we happen to be there. Such things are becoming very common nowadays in India. A decade ago such things did happen but not so quite common.. I think...

Why do you think we'll be there???? Aren't we educated enough not to understand that these happen can happen and plan and stay away from those areas.
Being from Hyderabad... I do know that most riots happen to start around Vinayaka immersion date as it generally clashes with a festival for Muslims. What do I do.. I keep away from those areas and stay home.
BTW, most of the guys caught in this are poor who follow the masses.. Keep away from the mass and stay with the class.:)

sorry to say but political instability is a lame excuse against R2I. Just like power cuts, corruption, potholes, mosquitoes are lame excuses too.
These are problems that you will have to likely live with for the rest of your life if you R2I, coz they are embedded deep in the way of life in India.

What if you live in a sleepy Akron Ohio, someone cuts you in a Pizzeria line and all you do is to tell the person at the other end of your phone the same?

How about parking your car, waiting for your friend and not back your car when some thug asks you to do?

And you say you are from Detroit. Wanna get a glimpse of how even a 91 year old can feel in a parking lot?

How about getting caught for a traffic violation in NJ?

Is America safe in your view? That too three of these are in full public view and no one comes to help the hapless? Let's not even get into Anaheim, CA or Bronx, NY or Philly/Atlanta downtown.
