R2A experiences?
one of my "cricket buddy" R2A after 1 year into R2I. He spent 6-7 yrs in US ( MS+4 yrs work) and went back to India to work for same company in Banglore. His hometown is in MP, so he didn't like much in Banglore, besides complained about traffic, office politics..etc. So, R2A to make some more money and now plans to go back to his hometown after few years of US$ savings.
One more person R2A after 2-3 yrs of R2I. The reasons R2I didn't work out for him --> his hometown is different than R2I destination. His son couldn't handle dust/heat in Noida.
So, seems like R2I to other than home-town or known area has more probability to fail. Also, when I look back at "cricket buddy"'s case, it seems like he did everything in a hurry. No proper research/planning was done.

How old was his son? Of course, different people have different tolerance levels, but most of my friends returned to Noida and their kids have gotten used to everything pretty well. It usually takes about a year in most cases.

R2A experiences?
funnie99,
I R2A'ed after 18 months in Bangalore. I lived in the U.S for around 8 years before. I had lived in B'lore in the past....
Are u thinking of R2A? I'm curious to know the reasons.. ?
Did you move to Bangalore? Is it your hometown? If not, did u try to move close to your hometown. Is your spouse working too?
My reason to R2A was primarily my health.. (Extreme respiratory allergies.) And i didn't feel i had enough savings to semi-retire. Bangalore is pretty expensive...
(I'm planning a second attempt.. Sometime in 2009.. to a smaller town.Wife is missing bangalore. To be more specific.. she's missing some of the perks in India like having a driver/maid. Here in the U.S, that's my second job :emcry: )
Looking back, i was not ready to r2i. It was more of a emotional decision, the first time around. And no proper planning....

Aspiring,
Please send me the pointers at
Desi,
My case is quite similar to yours. I agree completely with observation that R2I failures are more likely to be caused by NOT returning to your hometown than any other factor.
My hometown is Delhi and I R2'ied to Bangalore. I personally didn't like b'lore until last 2 months when I started comparing the price of owning a house and it turned out to be HUGE...specially considering the black/white crap involved in NCR RE. That makes another reason for R2A consideration as I too feel I didn't have enough saving to avoid taking some loan ( I don't like loans..just a personal choice) for the a normal middle class style house etc. So, a little more saving and perhaps, better health may trigger another round of emotions for me to r2I later on but..well...its R2A first.
My wife isn't working but should get a job much more easily in US. She never liked b'lore anyways.
I did a lot of planning ...at least that's what I thought...but it wasn't sufficient.
Best Regards!!

R2A experiences?
Interesting to see all the "I am not from B'lore, but R2i'ed there and don't like it now" posts. This looks like a failure to plan and decisions were made on the whim (and perhaps wanting to appear "cool" by moving to B'lore).
Good luck in your R2A efforts.

First of all, let me clarify that my "request seeking information on r2A" is NOT intended to offend anyone from bangalore or surrounding AREAS. Bangalore has excellent weather and the jobs opps available here are best in India.
There is absolutely nothing COOL about moving to bangalore or Delhi or any other part of country or world for that matter. Its all the priorities in life that takes you here and there.
I seek pointers on R2A and would appreciate if you guys can be understanding and stick to the objective on this thread. I certainly do not want this thread to be looked at as anti-bangalore thread.
