Why do some people get angry when shown the mirror??
This happens in social/office/ settings. After listening to their "blah blah" for a long long time someone finally sighs & shows a mirror. They get angry and start a new "blah blah" :).
I'm not sure what these people are called in Hindi or English or rather I not use any word to describe such people here.
It's easy to ignore a sub 20 year old but can we continue to ignore if it's someone double the age?
Has this happened to anyone? Is there a better way to show the mirror i.e. take the person to a lake and hope she/he notices the reflection in the water?
P.S. It has happened to me many times where I was shown the mirror or "my growing up with time" showed a mirror to me & I cringe in embarrassment when I remember those times.

One occasion I remember is when I newly started a job fresh out of college in the US 2 senior Managers took me & a girl who was also new out to lunch lunch(Company policy). There I made a joke about how some of the news in USA was strange where last night's news featured prominently a cat being rescued & the manager's faces turned a little "interesting" towards me. Now, I cringe whenever I remember that incident :emdgust:

Why? Because of their "ego" and the desire to be right.
Is there a better way? Yes, simply ignore....why do you want to show them the mirror? Is it because of your desire to be right? (LOL I just showed you the mirror)

Their ego clouds their simple brain.....why waste time on them? Only time this becomes a challenge is when that person is someone you deeply care (Example: your spouse/sibling/kid) In that case, you can only show love and affection and try to use diplomacy and with persistence take them to the lake, show them the water and keep a mirror as a back up :-)

I don't understand. It is natural for an Indian to express bemusement at a cat rescue. India has bigger problems. You didn't do anything wrong. You were just honest and forthright. Of course, it is natural for an American to show bemusement at your bemusement because they have no comprehension of what goes on in India. If an American was to spend a few years in India and then return to his homeland to find a cat being rescued on news television, he too would find it odd. No need to cringe old boy. These things happen to all of us.

On 2nd thoughts.
Hindi - Maharani/Maharaja
English - Attention lovers/seekers, or QueenBee(One of our friend's wife falls in this category & she has been abandoned by most of her erstwhile "friends" over the years)

One thing I have learnt over the years, showing a mirror mostly backfires since most people dont have the mental maturity to deal with criticism. Ego kicks in immediately and it becomes a "you think you are better than me".
I am guessing (playing a amateur psychologist) we humans are designed to be always be in the race of "who is better" and hence its very hard to accept most criticism.
Even with close friends most of the criticism has to be disguised as suggestions and not to be emphasized if the person does not get the hint unless its a dire situation like that person can lose a job because of his behavior/act, this is only for close people.
At some point in our development, we lose our inferiority complex and become very comfortable in our own skin (also with our situation) then we are able to take all kinds of criticism with no issues since we usually have already thought about all the things we lack and we know we cant fix most of them.

I wouldn't behave like this now :)
