This thread is a diary for me to put down my important R2I related task, milestone, and issues, etc. that may arise and or is addressed, as it happens - on a day-to-day basis.
Lot of information is available on this forum, but it is in many different threads. The R2I'er may not even be aware of what is required of him/her until s/he stumbles upon a piece of important information.
I believe that posting our day-to-day R2I related activities - sort of a R2I diary will not only make our R2I smooth and keep us on track, but could also help other R2I'ers.
This is an open thread. I would appreciate all LIA's as well as R2I'er - past, present and future, who'd jump in w/ their comments as and when they see it fit.
I'm sure your comments/advice/suggestions will be of help to any R2I'er viewing this thread.
IMO, it would be nice if other R2I'ers also create their own "My R2I Diary - ", off which a future/current R2I'er can copy and learn.
Thanks to everyone for "lighting" the different paths to R2I. :emrose:

Last few days have been hectic, though not as much as the coming weeks.
First of, USC interview date became known, which has allowed us to plan our trip.
Current plans are to attend the interview, leave for India and be back for the oath ceremony! (kids are USCs by birth)
We plan to do this even though it is inconvenient and expensive because we would like for the kids to start school in BLR along w/ the rest of their class.
We would like for the kids to be a part of their peer group as early as possible. The school admins also suggested that the first few days of school could be important for the kids in order to "mesh" and not feel left out.
A good thing is that we have identified a new school, so all grades/kids are new as well.
Add to this the fact that our work in India would also be benefited by our early presence!
Tickets were blocked tentatively today - via London w/ a brief stopover.

DL,
It would be good if you give some background like when did you decide to R2I, any existing setup in INDIA. It would be helpful to see the overall plan and then the execution on a regular basis.
Thanks for sharing.

I started thinking about it in 2003 but gained momentun only after mid 2006, when my wife also began to - willingly - like the R2I idea.
Couple of other things that had major role in the decision making process was a) USC; b) Career/job in India
We are in the final stages of USC and I'll be self-employed (non-IT)

IBD, The 'Bangalore Schools MT' in the MSN R2IClub was my starting point. I actually read over 750 posts, which gave an excellent insight into the type/kind of schools that are available.
A few members have made detailed posts and answered a lot of questions. Kudos to them:emthup:
My MIL visited a bunch of schools personally - a few, more than 1 time. I stumbled upon the school that we finally selected in this very forum!
Those R2I'ing to BLR w/ school going kids will find MT: Schools in Bangalore helpful.
My 4 yr old will join pre-school and the older - 3rd grade. Admissions were simple - kids will joining a new school and hence it was hassle free.
Established school will require written test/interviews etc., from what I gather...

DosaiLvr,
'My diary' concept is really good to keep track of all R2I issues in a single thread.
You said you'll be self-employed. That's really interesting. If it's not too much intrusion in personal details I have following questions:
1. Did you already setup something or will be doing it after going to India?
2. What line of business this will be?
3. Do you expect self-employment income will cover all your monthly expenses?

instead of answering point to point, it would be good if you can writeup something like background , pre US and within US lifestyle, issues you think you need to handle before R2I, any groundwork in India you did before R2I, issue you think you will face post R2I and how you plan to handle them etc.
I enjoy your writing style(vegetable shopping experience in the old forum was very funny), are you taking your admin(congrats on promotion from moderator) job seriously or what:emwink:
I know its difficult to find time to write during R2I, anyhow thanks again for sharing.
