Hi All,

I have an offer from Satyam that promises to take me back to India
next year after a year in the US. Your experiences on the work environment
and other inputs are much appreciated.

Thanks,

One of my friend who was in the U.S for almost 15 years relocated to Hyderabad in 2005. He joined Satyam and is still working there. He is one of the V.P of a vertical group. He says it's a rat race and people trying to stab you in the back and pull you down, too much politics. He has been able to survive and do fairly well. The compelling reason for him to return was a personal reason that he has to be in Hyderabad.

Office politics is part & parcel of work, Staym, Infy, Wipro or IBM, EDS, Accenture!
OP, it all depends on what is the offer you have got. If you think you got what you deserved, I would say go for it...after all, no one stops you from job hunting once you are in India & you feel that politics at office is something that you can not handle.....
One word of caution: Work life itself would be tough in general compared to US, with late hours, deadlines etc, but that will be true for almost all IT (or MNC) software companies in India (unless you go to a product based company like Oracle or SAP).

Not always. at Infosys, one can take a short nap after lunch. at Accenture, there are cricket matches across teams. Late hours are because every second hour there are entertaining activities like cricket, naps, spend hours in the cafetaria, talk to colleagues, picnics...

chaps,

In US I'm assuming you are going to be working at a client location. When you move to India if you are going to be part of the same account transition will be easier as you will already be working with the offshore team and know the team dynamics. Politics is there in every company. It's left to you how you deal with it and how much you want yourself to be part of it.

Trdrwp,

I found that opportunity using dice.com, you can try there as well.
It hasn't worked out for me yet as I'm yet to get a counter offer.
Negotiations are still on...

The operative word here is "can"..yes, policies allow you, but tell me honestly, with the kind of work load & deadlines, how many employees actually do it?
(Disclaimer: I worked in Wipro SRJ office, where they have those wonderful dormitories, but barring one instance when I was in office for 38 hrs straight, I did not use them).

I must say though, I have been out of India for about 4 years now & things "might" have changed & I hope they have, as I plan to return pretty soon:)

As for picnics, cricket, well, I am sure they are never held in weekdays between 9:00 to 5:00, so they are like any other social event.
