2. My manager handles two projects. One under me (PM) and other for a different team.
When it comes to my project - he always wants to cut corners, by pass processes and get it done as quickly as possible.
Where as - on the other project , he plays by rules...flexible on dates too.
I came to know this recently - thro another confidential co-worker. How do i handle this - double standards? How to convince /confuse my boss?
Is he taking advantage of me? I do know officaly of this double standard..
I am consultant, I can find a better job too. I work for a fortune 500 comp (IT).
The manager is also a Desi. (USC)

how is your project diffferent from the other one. What are the similarities and differences? Is the other project more important to his image or his success? Think about these things. That will give you an answer.

1. First make sure that these allegations are true. If this is happening in India... people often make false accusations.
2.Is this manager giving you results ? Are you satisfied with these results?
Just because some one else had told you about this manager you should not take drastic steps.

I don't think its about you. I believe its more to do with the nature of projects. One such possibility could be that the project you are working on has less visibility compared to the other project. or of lesser strategic importance. If he always assigns you such projects then you got to tallk to him and ask for more challenging stuff. With this discussion you will get to know if he doesn't have enough confidence on you.
Or probably he thinks the other guys are pain and he can not get away with those shortcuts while working with them. If this is the case then you don't have to worry about it. Like someone said, listen to your boss. He is the one who evaluates the quality of your work.

There is your problem ?The manager is also a Desi. (USC)?, some people don?t want to change and adapt to a higher level of professionalism. All you can do is learn from this incident and when you become a manger don?t attempt to repeat your manager style.

The grass usually seems greener on the other side. Do your best to make him look good and more importantly make sure he understands that.

First you need to realize that they hired you as a consultant so they could give you less important projects. And since they're less important, they'll cut corners wherever possible.
Secondly you should not be worried about visibility since you're a contracted worker and should just do the job and move on, unless you're looking to get employed fulltime by your client.
Thirdly Desi managers are tough to deal with. Since they're dealing with fellow-desis, they know that cutting corners is a part of everyday Desi life. :)
