Commuting In Hyderabad

Post by nelly »

I am curious if anyone is considering working in the hitech city and commuting from some central place in HYD or SEC.

I am considering living in/around Shakermuth/Nallakunta area and commuting to Hitech with a schedule of 6AM to 3PM. Hoping to stay out of the rush hour.

Outside of keeping the schedule, has anyone tried something like this or has had experience commuting to Hitech city from the central areas in HYD/SEC.

I am getting a lot of views but no responses. I guess either I am too crazy to consider this or no one has really done something like this.

I do understand a lot of people prefer to stay closer to work (at least based on my friends that have moved).

I am R2I'ing for my parents (a big part of it, there are other reasons). It sort of defeats the purpose if I chose to stay close to work -- in an NRI community. I plan to stay close to my parents (walking distance) and pay the price with the commute.

Tough trade off, but is this realistic -- i don't know commute times and I don't want to make an emotional decision....

thanks for *any* insight or opinions.

No, you are not crazy...everyone has their own reasons. Based on your schedule, your morning commute should not be a problem. Very few Hyderabadis start their workday at 6 am, especially in the less techie Nallakunta area. Coming home at 3 pm could be a little difficult compared to the morning commute, but its still better than getting out at 5 or 5:30. Usually the peak traffic hours are 4:30 to 9:30 pm.

Having said that, I still think you should stay closer to work...especially with recent incidents and growing infrastructure concerns. May be convince your parents to move towards Hitech city? I know its unsolicited advice, but its a sincere one. Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck.

You can also consider the MMTS. Commute to the MMTS station and back, like park and ride in the US.

Thank you for your response. My parents are unable to move to a new location, hence this thought process.

Also the 6AM start will help me with meetings with US (if I can get them to stay a bit late :)) better than me staying through 10PM at night most nights -- which is what I hear happens a lot at MNC's.

Ok, now this is an option that never crossed my mind. Didn't realize this was even an option to Hitech city.

The only place I saw the MMTS is in "Pokiri" (the telugu movie). I will certainly look into this excellent idea -- thanks a ton.

I am very keen to know the MMTS option too. I am R2H'ing shortly and will be in the AS Rao Nagar (near ECIL, Saninipuri) area. How bad would be the commute to Hitec city? Also if I do a park and ride and use MMTS, what would be my options.

TIA,

Hiring a driver is a much more convenient option compared to park and ride!!

In any case, a safe parking place in not likely to be available near MMTS.

I need to go back to check on the realities, but the thought process is the roads are more dangerous as compared to the trains, so if the bulk of travel could be done on the MMTS, it might be safer. Need to see the feasability, I hear that there is now regular bus connectivity from HiTec City MMTS station to various locations like Cyber Tower/GateWay/Perl etc.

Here is a timetable link:
