Anyone interested in discussing baseball? Its almost time for the fall classic.

Yanks are now just 1.5 games behind Reddies. This is a great comeback considering that they were a dozen games behind in June.
I guess both Red Sox and Yankees have now qualified.
In NL, Mets are doing what Reddies are doing in AL. They are allowing Phillies to come back within 1.5 games now.
As long as the Cardinals are not in the league championship games, I will have fun:emwink: The same applies to Detroit folks too.

People in Detroit haven't given up...at least not as yet.

2.5 after the tough extra innings loss last night. But indeed a great comeback after all the injuries and poor show early in the season for the yanks. I really like their young phenoms joba, kennedy and hughes although hughes seem to be losing it in the early innings of late.
The redsox are handicapped without manny batting behind Ortiz. Manny being Manny again.
The Mets I don't even know where to start. If they blow their lead I will be the first one enjoying the fact that everyone prematurely declared that newyork is a mets town now :D

Yanks clinched last night. The AL is decided now with the Redsox, Yankees, Indians and Angels qualifying. The new rule of the AL team with the best record picking the 7 or 8 day ALDS is going to make things interesting. Although the Angels are like kryptonite for the yanks I would hardly want them to face the Indians if they get the best record and opt for the 8 day series. That would mean having to face Sabathia and Carmona twice in a 5-game series. That could have bad consequences. I think Boston will be glad to face the Angels over the Indians. While the Angels always play the yankees hard they usually play the the redsox really bad. Regardless this is going to be a good playoffs.

Now that the matter is settled for the city of 8 mile road, let's move forward  Yanks are in. Now I am hoping Mets somehow make it. Can't recall any other team freefalling so badly in the last 15 games like Mets!

RedSox clinched AL East after 12 years.
Cubs clinched too.
I am not in Yankees bandwagon yet. October baseball is all about good pitching and Yankees don't have a consistent rotation for 5 or 7 games. Except Wang, Mussina,Pettite and injured Clemens haven't delivered consistently and ARod's post season woes are well known. At the most, Yankees can come to ALCS but they won't win pennant. They didn't face Sabathia in any of their Indians games. Their unpredictability showed in last 3 games where they could not beat non playoff teams.
Any predictions? Who will win ALCS and NLCS and who will win it all?

RaResha spoken like a closeted redsox fan. Aren't you from NE? Why not be an open fan? However, I too think the yankees chances are not that great not because of their pitching but because of their inconsistent offense. We all know what happened against Detroit last year. If Cleveland gets to pick the 8-day ALDS they will have Sabathia and Carmona pitch two games each which is going to be very difficult for the yanks to win. I actually like their pitching this time around than last year. Wang and Pettite are fairly consistent. Clemens is better than the #4 option they had last year of Wright. Also the bullpen of Vizcaino, Hughes, Joba and Mo is better than what they had last year.
About the sox I think their starting rotation is suspect outside of Beckett. Their bullpen is also suspect with Okajima and Gagme. But I still think that HFA will play well into their hands against the Angels. I would like to predict a Redsox-Yankees ALCS and I am sure the redsox will get there but I have my doubts the yankees will get there. Its going to be a tough series against the Indians.

IBD,
Yes, I was a former RedSox fan but after moving away from NE, the affinity has definitely thawed.
I have love-hate relationship with Yankees. I like A-rod and feel he is too good a player to have no rings in his resume, so I would like him to do well post season and have world series ring but I hate Yankees and their fans for holding him accountable for all the post season woes since he is with them .Even though he didn't deliver , inconsistent pitching and spotty offence were equal contributors. The reason this time Yankees are in play-offs is mainly due to A-rod's offense (and he will win his 3rd AL-MVP) but every time I root for him in post season, he and the Yankees have come up short. So I am neutral this time and don't want to jinx A-rod by rooting. Yeah, I know it doesn't make any sense and hope you understand what I mean.

I have been a lifetime yankees fan and I am not sure what to think about ARod. But one thing is clear he is probably the greatest baseball player of our times and its a treat to watch him. He comes with the baggage of some bush league play that we have to put up with and also the craving to say something stupid and become the center of attention of the media. On the other hand he does play in NY and he doesn't need to say much to get the attention of the media.
Regarding the yanks I don't know if I credit ARod with all their success. I think they are the hottest team in baseball since the all-star break by far. Their accomplishment of making the postseason this year is really phenomenal considering where they were in June. People make a big deal of their payroll but look how pathetic the Sox offense was with just Manny out. On the other hand the yanks were without a starting rotation for the first 3 months almost.
I think the yanks will beat the sox if they get to the ALCS (yea I am a yanks fan!). After being down in their season series they came back to win it 10-8 and I don't think they are scared of playing in fenway. But the problem is going to be getting to the ALCS. Lets see if they can finish a short series without screwing things up.
