Hello

I'm member for a long time. I'm one of those who used this forum extensively, and got lot of help.

R2i Plan
- Didn't have any plan till last year. No parents . Only brothers and isisters. Some health problem in the family made us to think on R2i. And we were appreciate of our support in india. Things became more and more clear and some what focussed now. Wife was not ready before, after looking at the benefits for kids (academics, support, tuition, competion) now we are looking now r2i as the focus

We are leaving on june 15th. 2 kids (3rd grade, 3 year old). Would be looking at some schools in chennai after we land there. Our timing is close to school year end in CA. Plan is for family to try out in few months. I will be here for a 6 months or so before wraping it up. We know we will R2I, things got more clear due to school closing here, my project completion, renting end etc.

This is some what planned move and not a whole lot. If you are looking from the planning input, you may not necessarily get it from here.

Profile: USC/OCI. 12 years US. have a house and land in chennai. No house in US. As we are in the move process, i may post it only on occassions

Ddin't made it clear before. My move is not a greatly planned move. We did some planning, I may not ncessarily have answers. I understood the associated risk with this approach. We are short of time since our daughter currently in 2nd grade and going to 3rd grade. My wife wants to try out R2i earlies than latter. That is the reason for the last minute decision. plan is allways there was to move in the last 6-7 months or so. Timing is decided only 15 days ago.

Srini,

As far as time goes, couple of months maybe ample time if a clear action plan exists and no external factor (such as prop sale, USC, etc) grabs you by the ankle.

Please keep updating your dairy as you reach your milestones.

OP,
Sometimes thinking too much over R2Iing, over a long period of time also is not good. A "can do" attitude goes a long way..Good luck with your move and hope it is successful for you. :)

We are in full of confusion. One of my friend and all my relatives are asking us to invest in big property in india before making a trip. So, we are going to india now with a double mind.

Lot of our guys do this again again - the "Just because of friends & relatives" thing.

Do what is good for you & your family. You can get suggestions from others, but you should be the decision maker & do what you feel good for you & for your happiness.

There is nothing to get confused - be clear in your goals. If you need time - to decide things - yes stay with it. Good Luck.

We Returned in Sep on 9th 2007.

Planning: We didn't do lot of planning as such. Some time in last year june-august 2006 time frame, thought of returning to india occured to me. i had discussed this to my wife and it took lot of time to convince her. Key things faced while discussing with spouse are - privacy, independence, progressiveness etc. I have 8 year old daughter and she was in borderline that time. We were living in US more than 12 years and lived in bay area.

Shipping: I had only rented in US so endedup selling stuff and came to india only with 1 extra baggge. Paid 120$ extra. When my wife moved to india she didn't come with lot of stuff as well. some of stuffs are still in US. sky2c and others are not viable option since i need to ship only 10 boxes and they were asking me close to 750$. So, i carried on important stuff and left some of it in my friend's houses. Some fellow members helped me in this aspect as well. Buying electronics and furniture in US came to mind, but looking at shipping cost i put that of. Will let you more details once i go and shop in india.

kids school: I had put both my kids in july 2007 in NPS, chennai. It was a okay school. CBSE- have to look around. My daughter had very little compliant. she attimes says work load is more with no play times and such. I just came by only a day ago... have to sort out that.

Banking: I look lot of time to set this thing up. Online banking with various banks took lot of time to setup.

Jobs: When i came by in jun-july i had talked to wipro, satyam... still discussing with them. I'm in oracle applications with more than 15 years experience. Have to find out how other options are.
