Would any of the forum members have info about getting reasonably priced decent insurance for parents with GC? - they just got their GC.
Here is some more info
1.Father is aged 72
2.Mother is aged 63
Father has had couple of operations for Kidney stones and gall bladder removal.
Mother had a heart attack in 2005 and had to have a couple of stents put in.
I am guessing the above will be considered as 'pre-existing conditions'.
Also, I hear that some States (MD, VA, NY, NJ, CA) have certain state sponsored insurance programs that GC holders can avail but do not have complete info.
Please share any info you may have

I have a similar question -- I hope I am not hijacking this thread. If that's the case please let me know and I will open a new thread.
My parents are visiting me for 6 months on visitor visa and I am looking for medical insurance for them.
Age: 60 and 54
They have mediclaim with LIC in India that covers upto Rs 1L each/year. Can that be used in US?
In addition to the above I would like them to come with medical insurance that covers for any unforeseen circumstances.
Can someone please
1) recommend a insurance company they had good experience with
2) If possible please provide a quotation so I have a baseline to compare against and
3) Also did they cover pre-existing conditions?
I asked them to get a quotation from the company they have their Mediclaim with and they quoted a price of 40,000 INR per person for 6 months. I think this price is too high and it does not cover pre-existing conditions. Is this quotation too high?
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Harry.

Deductible is $100/ illness (In-patient or Out-patient).
Does anyone have issues with icici lombard?
Thank you.

Sure, I understand this. That's the reason I mentioned in my post 3 -- I hope I am not hijacking this thread. I am looking for same information for my parents but they are coming on Visitor Visa. Should I open a new thread? Please suggest.

MeraNaseebR2I;28513You can either buy costly private insurance for parents or use the state sponsored senior care program - called medicaid.
From what I know - MA, NJ and CA have this facility. I have also heard WA and TX have these programs - but not confirmed. Your mom has to be 65+ to avail this facility.
I do not think your parents condition will be considered pre-existing. You need to confirm. My dad has some kidney problems but has been receiving state healthcare benefits. In his case everything is covered - doctor visits, pharmacy, prescription drugs, periodic tests, vision, hearing checkup annually etc.
If you desire emergency medical care - noting your parents health, If I were you, I would buy additional insurance.
Hope this helps.[/quote]
MeraNaseebR2I: can you please elaborate more. My parents are going to
get the GC soon and I was looking at the option of buying medicare
insurance for them (65+). Is there a state (medicaid) route too?
Also, do they have to live here for a minimum no. of years before
they can buy a state/federal plan?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, there is no reasonably priced decent insurance available for elderly new immigrants. The choices available are listed at New Immigrant Insurance.
You should also read the guide New Immigrants Medical Insurance for detailed understanding of the choices available (rather, the lack of choices available.)
