This is what I did for India

Post by r2ikyon »

Admins please feel free to change the title of this message to make it more meaningful.

The idea is to hear from any one who has contributed in his/her own way to a cause for India at what ever level (community, office, organization, city, state or country) and however small/big way.
Some of you might not like the idea of expressing your good gesture in public but I request you to put it out here for some one like me to feel inspired or at least give an idea as to how ?I? can do something because all along I only learnt to lament, crib and complain about India.
I will start with my little gesture.

  • I translated some articles from Hindi to Telugu (for free of course) for an organization which wanted to spread their ideology about capitalist economy. I believed in their ideology then and hence I contributed.
I have not R2Ied yet. My wife and I have some small plans to contribute and when we do so we will add to the list.

Please add to the list. May the force and positive vibe be with us

over the last few yrs i've started sponsoring village kids for their education/school dress etc. and opening libraries in remote villages. u really can't believe how much of what u consider "chillar" money can get in remote villages. every penny counts.

thx for starting this thread...even if it inspires a few people to wake up and contribute in any way...it's mission accomplished.

For quite sometime, I was looking for a way to contribute to any of the causes close to my heart, till I found this easy way through ICICI bank?s internet banking website. There is a link to charity, which takes one to giveindia.org website through which I could donate. The amount was deducted directly from my ICICI bank account and there was no need to enter a credit card number.
It gave me a lot of satisfaction to read about the work being done by various charity organisations, before selecting the one I want to donate. I was registered in to giveindia.org site and I have received my receipt in my account for IT purposes. According to the website, I will be receiving information about the details about how my money is being utilized and about the beneficiary as well.

I support multiple charities such as Dishaa.org, AidIndia.org, Esopheagel Support Network in a small way for kids education, healthcare and supporting orphans. In that way, I am happy that I am doing INDEXING of CHARITY where diversification of my small funds reduces risk. Even if one of the above organization does not do a good job, the other will do a better job and my average support will be fruitful:)

Hi

Other than donating to NGO's like AidIndia, CRY and others, we have made a policy in our family. On all special occasions like our birdays, kids' birthdays etc., we will host lunch for blind children at Samarthanam. Samarthanam is an organisation doing excellent service to blind people in JP Nagar near Woodys.

Regards

First of all it is not just for India or my home state or my home city or my community or my religion etc. It is more general like what is that 'I' have done to humanity or this planet.

  • Giving to charity wherever I come across good and convincing options. Like fund-a-school (Madhya Pradesh), CRY (Maryland), Vatsalyam (Tamil Nadu), Sankara Eye foundation (Karnataka), Navaprabhat (Orissa), Socare (Karnataka), Sai Baba Hospital (Kar), Arsha Vidya Gurukulam (Pennsylvania), Community hostels (Kar)
  • Volunteering time for cultural and temple events, local libraries, including feeding the poor programs.
  • Loaning money to relative kids when they need for college education.
  • Giving publicity to honest efforts like goodnewsindia.com which now has surpassed 1 million unique visitor hits.
  • Becoming a part of win-win situations like usindiafriendship.net
  • Most importantly, using business opportunities to create more jobs in India.

Overall, very little change can be done by someone alone, unless there is tremendous resources or passion. It is always a group effort.

Hello everyone,
Apologies if I am posting it in a wrong place
Or
If you think that I am taking advantage of posting this request in this forum.

I am a frequent reader of this R2I club forum since 2+ yrs? and recently became a member. Living in UK and preparing to R2I May next year.

I got this request from my brother. Since it?s for a good cause I thought of posting here. My brother (Sridhar) is also working for this. If you need to talk to him please ring his mobile: 0091-9448497560. He lives in Bangalore.

Here is what I wanted to say. Please help if you can.

Appeal for providing free education for students from rural areas from economically and socially weaker sections at Sri Govinda Theertha college, Nandi village, Chickballapur taluk, Kolar Dist, Karnataka, India

Introduction of Shree Govinda Teertha Swamiji:
A PhD holder in Mathematics from IIT Mumbai, in 1970, he has served as teacher for 20 years in Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva institution without renumeration. Along with Mathematics, he used to teach his students about spiritual and moral aspects. His goal has been to instill ethics and values to his students. From 1990 swamiji took to ascetic life and has been staying on a hill without any shelter under a rock. Nearby villagers have been drawn towards him attracted by simplicity of this man and his teachings. Lot of villagers have been reformed under his influence. They have been requesting him to solve their problems. So he has agreed to discharge his service for upliftment of the surrounding villages. As a result he has been devoting his time to educate the people in leading ethical life. This has uplifted the living standards of local villagers. Impressed by this, they have provided land free of cost to carry out the developmental activities and named the place as Panchavati. Some of the village leaders have come together and formed a trust under the name "Panchavati Trust" to serve the society under the able guidance of beloved swamiji.
This trust has leaders from all the surrounding villages as trustees and has been instrumental in guiding the people to right path. It is also carrying out free medical camps to improve the health of the villagers. It is also providing daily, free lunch for the needy people. The trust also conducts loka-seva bhajans(mass prayers) in all the villages on regular basis. The trust also has team of volunteers in all surrounding villages called seva dal, who carry out the required services.
On Govinda Theertha college:
Inspired by these activities by Panchavati trust, old students and desciples of the swamiji started a new trust by name Anchita Education Trust. The aim of the trust is to provide a higher education, free of cost, to the needy village students who cannot afford the expenses of higher education. This trust will provide funds to Panchavati trust for educational purposes. The Government of Karnataka has sanctioned a degree college in Bachelor of Arts to be run by Panchavati trust. This college will be starting from this academic year(2007-2008). The college is situated at Nandi village at the foothills of famous Nandi hills. The governing body of the college has decided to teach the village students in the medium of English. Apart from the academic curriculum, it is also decided to teach them special English classes to improve the english skills which will enable the students to be competitive with urban students. It is also decided that special impetus will be given for moral and spiritual aspects, so that the product of the institution will be self depenedent, responsible and value oriented citizen.
Request for contributions:
The expenses for the above cause has been calculated at Rs 15000 per student per annum. This includes the infrastructure cost, salaries for the staff and government fees. The Anchita Education trust has decided to setup a fund by which regular montly expenses of the institution will be met. We solicit your generous donations in this regard. Your donations will enable a poor village student to chart better future.
You may please send your donations to the below mentioned bank account.
