Cool tools, technologies and gadgets.

I presume most of ye lads are big techomaniacs. Just wondering it mite have happened that you mite have spent ur quality time researching on some problem and you finally found some cool software that made your life easy, why dont you share that with us? It will be interesting to see what people got that rest of us can use in daily life.

So since I started it I should give a starter:

Download n burn youtube movies to dvd: I used total video converter and Super(c) software that captures the youtube contents, the flash videos and can also convert to *.avi *.mpeg or you_name_it_format later can be easily burnt into a dvd

If you are using SOA web services, use this cool tool www.soapui.org , got good feedback from the client and the tool is free. You want more of this, just IM me, and I'll be more than willing to give u a demo

Mindmap: Probably one of the greatest tool to let your thinking flow. How many times have you been thinking more than one thing at the same time they all are connected but you need something to hold your feet on the ground, if you are in the same ship, read this and here is the tool . Brilliant tool, my personal favourite!

webdemo portlets: You wanna record a presentation for any remote client a web-demo with your voice recorded, and you place it in some website, the client downlaods it and listens and watches the entire video? Then read this [ http://www.debugmode.com/wink/] and this [http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/BBFlashBackExpress.aspx]

Ping me on any of these, if you want more details...

Lets exchange the best technologies out there and benefit one-another!

Sometime ago i researched on registry cleaner freewares out there and eventually settled on EasyCleaner.
You can download it from here:

Cleaning your PCs registry is as important as getting your colon cleansed once in a while. Most people neglect it and that is one big reason why as times passes our workstations start appearing to be slower than they were when we first bought them.

don't tell me you haven't been getting those annoying security popups every time you try to run a program in Vista.

Even more hilarious is that Vista doesn't even trust the programs written by Microsoft itself.

The memory consumption of Vista in the idle state is twice as much as it is in XP - this is right when the PC is out of the box. God knows what it'll be when i've installed a couple of programs.

I encountered those two issues and researched them so let me help.

[QUOTE]don't tell me you haven't been getting those annoying security popups every time you try to run a program in Vista.

This can be turned off. Its simply the level of security that you want Vista to impose.

[QUOTE]The memory consumption of Vista in the idle state is twice as much as it is in XP - this is right when the PC is out of the box. God knows what it'll be when i've installed a couple of programs

Vista actually has a new memory management system called superfetch. You can google it. It tries to manage memory allocation to programs intelligently based on your usage patterns. The cached memory shown in task manager is actually being used by your running programs so that it can reduce disk access but when more processes start running it reallocates memory to those processes. I found out that superfetch runs as a windows service and you can basically stop the service and memory management goes back to the way its done in XP.

btw, I did find a couple of freeware registry cleaners for Vista. However, I am not sure how reliable they are.

Ok here's one that I use.

I bought my parents a laptop so that we can do video conference calls on the computer using MSN/Yahoo messenger. Now they are not exactly that great with the computer so what I did was sign up with this service called logmein.com. Its allows me to add their laptop to my account and then as long as they can start their computer and get online lets me administer the computer remotely from here to resolve any software related issues. What is cool about this is I can use this to update their computer with the latest virus scanner software, spyware blockers etc. It comes in pretty handy if they get stuck somehwere to just take over their computer and get them going again. Infact I can start the video conferencing on both ends from my computer at home itself. Just thought it would be useful for those of you with parents who are not computer savvy. Best of all its free.

Another one I will add Openoffice.org. opensource implementation of Office suite. Contains Word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, diagramming and database software. The best part I like about this is you can take any of your documents and export them to PDF format. Allows me to write up really professional looking documents. I don't have to worry about buying MS Office anymore. Also it allows exporting to MS Office format and converts MS Office documents to openoffice format.

MSN Messenger comes with an option to make a video call as long as one of you has a webcam. I have a Microsoft Lifecam vx6000. It integrates well with MSN messenger and comes with a built in microphone. It seems to give better framerates in a MSN Messenger video call than a yahoo messenger call. I have not tried google talk yet.
