CAn someone provide some reliable contacts of headhunters?
Even though job scenario looks rosy ,all i am getting are some junk
calls/mails after applying in various job portals like monster etc.
Eventhough i have core 9 years of experience , I am not getting the desired
response from internet job portals?
Any other tips from members in this forum?I am searching for a job after a gap of 8 years
and it doesnt seem easy as it seems to be ,to find the right fit.
Even the "job oppurtunities thread" in this forum seems more or less like a spam
thread.

It appears that the job market is cooling. I was in India last couple of weeks and a prominent Bangalore newspaper had ads from 3 companies. Usually about 10-15 companies post ads. Similar stories at Times Of India.
Unless you are a fresher (when you have walk-ins), the other positions seem to have gone into a freeze. The dollar decline, real-estate situation and other events may be adding their fair share too.

I have the same problem too! Its been 3 months now since we started job hunting and apart from few junk calls, i am not getting any good responses.
Hopefully someone can help.

I believe this slowdown is due to a combination of factors:
1) RE slowdown (?) in India.
2) Re appreciation, which is putting pressure on Indian cos, who were hiring by the truck load in the past.
3) Year end coming close (atleast in US), so a lot of hiring is on hold (I know this to be true of hiring in US, since I was told by the mgmt to hold of on a couple of positions I had in my dept).
4) The fact that Oct 1 is approaching fast, may have some impact too. Remember, H1 quota opens on Oct 1, & a lot of IT companies would be waiting to align the recruiting based on how many people travel/switch around this time. This may not be impacting the hiring in India, but in US, Q3/Q4 are typically slow, Q4 being the slowest.
Finally, all the turmoil in the markets (read sub prime mortgage) may be adding to this, coupled with credit tightening.
Oh well, hope things get better soon, as I am also going to be in the market for a change soon..:emwink:

Take it easy, folks. Good news is on the way. One of my friends works as a consultant for a large IT provider. His firm was asked to identify a strategy for bringing in NRIs as employees. They have submitted a 70+ page report and I had a quick peek and the report is interesting and promising. He has identified a number of issues that are near and dear to an NRI in the job search process. The client company plans to act on the report by end of August.

The report was commissioned by IT firms, who seem to have realized the value of NRIs not just as an economic force, but also as a talent pool with experience. It lists the various issues that NRIs face when applying for jobs and how to walk the recruiters and hiring managers through the hiring process. It goes into great detail, for eg. the section on follow-through by recruiter alone goes through about 7 pages and has quotes from ppl who have been through the process recently. Issues such as reaching the NRIs via the right forums, designing relocation packages, designing job roles such that an NRI team lead with 7 years of experience does not end up being a peer with a kid with 3 years of experience etc.... are listed. Should be interesting to see the results, once his clients follow the report.

vishwa : I convinced my friend to provide a summary of the report. He said he would summarize and post it online. Check out his blog at http://nrihiring.wordpress.com/
