Growth for Technical Folks in India

Another thing that has me doubting my R2I? I am a deeply technical person. Here in the US the more experience you have in technical areas there is a certain respect but I hear in India folks with 3-4 yrs experience are made architects/managers/leads/etc. In this scenario what is the hope for someone who wants to stay technical.

Please post experiences/views on this.

What do you mean by 'what is the hope'? You are technical so njoy it without getting into the mangerial politics/appeasements etc.. All you might have to see is the salary grade - if at all there is one and not the title.

One of my friend's collegue who was promoted to the team manager position asked to be demoted back to his technical role after a few months as he enjoys it more and my friend took over as the manager then. This happens in the US but, in India people don't do that and want the Title and Sir/Madam.

Some companies have their R&D centers that have similar respect for core tech personnels as in US, the catch is there are only few! to name some: HP India has "scientists", Microsoft India has "Architects", TI India has "MTS/SMTS" .
You can get respect and growth, the problem is to find the right company. Best is to transfer internally.

Like r2i_100 said, there are companies that let you stay purely technical but you need to find the right one. Though arch/design work is generally done in US, there are several companies that have invested heavily in R&D stuff in India also. Try finding those.

Hi - I am planning to return to Hyderabad, India , working in US for last 13 years. Prospects of Oracle DBA manager/Architect / Sr DBA, salary expectations etc.

Any similar experiences or views on oracle dba jobs in Hyderabad.
