Power generator for the entire house

frequent power cuts is common in india....
does any one use any kind of portable power generator to supply the entire house in case of power failure?

Depends on where you live. Power cuts are rare in Mumbai city and pune. Nothing is needed

If the cuts are scheduled and short an inverter should do. Else use a generator. But then you will have to deal with fuel cost and teh fumes

The preferred solution seems to be an "inverter". For US folks, inverter is like an UPS but there is a "trip" between the time the power goes off and the inverter kicks in. Typical house would require 1-2KVA and based on the number & type of batteries, you can get anywhere from 4-24 hours of backup time.

Buy 2KVA inverter from Sukam and 4 batteries.
This will cover the entire house for minimum 24 hours (lights,fans,fridge,TV) except the high power kitchen items and AirCon.

The inverter costs 11k and batteries costs 12k.

The 5KVA Generator costs around 60k, which covers AirCon too. But negative points are, it needs covered roof during rainy season and also noise and fumes during operation.

Solar panel equipments support only lights and fans and cost around 50k.
