Living in Pune is reasonably quite affordable, compared to other metros.
Mostly costly is housing & Vehicle : Example 3BHK for 20000 + (wakad etc)
Servant (Rs 600 for 3 jobs)
Monthly electric Bill (1000 for 3 bhk)
All other (5000 If you cook at home for family of four)
Average pay for programmer Job is Rs 1lakh per year of experience (max 10lakhs).
My data might be bit old as I am in US since 2005.

Pune is acc to some is one of the most expensive cities to live…few of my friends who are from Bangalore and have settled in pune think pune is more expensive. All these fig. are provided by them to me..and they lead good higher middle class life, some of them hv r2i'ed and some of them are in BPO and earning well travel abroad time to time.
We start with
Mortgage: you might be paying RS.50,000 apx for 3 bed apt. can be more or less acc to loan+ if you are living in large township or high rise you will hv to pay monthly maintenance ranging form 1000 to2000 rs.or if you hv invested long back you are in right place..
Car: if you go for higher end car like corolla you will shelling out another Rs/25,000/30;000 a month..it will considerably less for smaller cars.
Patrol: at least 5000 rs…remember you will use car to after work and for leisure purpose as well in that case it will be more..if using 2 car even more.
Electricity/gas/groceries. round about 5000 more or less
Maid :depending on where you reside its about Rs 2000 for the maid who will be with you 7am to 7pm her duties are to take care of children ,ironing, any chores you might want to her to do she might doing cleaning job. if you want bai for cloths and utensils than about Rs 600
Day care center: about 2000 rs.to 3500
Entertainment: about 10,000 for the family of four..i am giving lower figure here I know for sure that it exceeds all the time. movies, theaters, restaurants, even attending social events, entertaining people, birthdays ,traveling by auto, festivals.are costly these days ..some may not agree with this.
Schools: now it depends on which school you send your child to international schools are expensive …average cost of the Indian school is 20,000 rs ..This I am not entirely sure..
If you have kids there are demands and in India even if everything is available it all comes with the price+our expenses like clothing etc ...
Medical expenses are depending on your needs. but if you hv parents living with you or if you are caring for them then medical bills do run up high…best thing to do is to have health insurance ..what ever monthly cost is. its very effective.
Do the maths man and add some amount for miscellaneous expenses....over and above you will hv investments and insurances and property taxes ..

niwas, I am not sure what expense that you mentioned would be cheaper in Bangalore. Homes, Cars, Entertainment (5 star category), multiplexes, jewellery, branded clothes should cost the same in all Indian major cities.
The difference would be cost of household help but anybody who affords Corolla in India should have more things to worry about than salaries of maids.
Your figures are right but I think its the lifestyle of people who can easily afford it.
I don't see many higher end cars on streets of Pune and whoever have them are a little too high in the social ladder to worry about insignificant things like electricity bills!!!
It would be interesting to survey how many higher-end car owners actually have seen their electricity bills.

All these expenses i have given are ofcourse due to personal choices..a life style choice.I made it clear in the begining that its a higher middle class life style which atleast i aspire to lead after so many years of hard work.i
When in india we alway can use bus instead of car/shop in mundaee and eat dal rice at home or bhel puri in sambhaji park..nobody will care...again life style choice.
about banglore these are opinions of the people who has lived in banglore..they might be wrong for all i know.
good luck with your survey.

Bobo , IF you have specifics in mind ask in detail?
People have wide variety of living standard, middle income class levels are from RS 10,000 pm to 5 lakhs pm. You can very well have a decent life style at 50,000 pm.
Lets know in detail what lifestyle you looking for? what is your family size? Earning members in family, what level (designations) you work in which field? If you ask question in detail, I think you might get a more detailed reply on your questions.
