How to get new gas connection in Hyderabad?

Hi,

Please share your experience on how to get new gas connection in Hyderabad? What documents do we need? Gas supply regulated or buy as you wish? Details please!!

you need to get your ration card first which will be a proof for applying for the gas connection. Depending on the pending list the time frame for the gas cylinder approval will be informed by the distributor. This can be a few weeks to several months.

Other usual way in HYD is to grease these greedy distributors.

Resident USC can get a ration card. I don't recollect exactly what all I needed, but my wife and I had to go and get ourselves photographed. We had to fill a form, give address proof. Since we went during one of those drives they conducted, it was all done in a matter of 2 hours!

thanks submarine, when do they conduct such drives that u mentioned ? where did you get that information ? since i need the gas connection i guess i would not be able to wait for the drives ...

These drives are no longer being conducted in Hyd (as far as I am aware). You will need to apply at the Rationing office, along with the filled form, address proof with xerox and any other information they might need. You might want to also speak with your area officer/inspector in that office.

As a NRI, I applied for the gas connection last year. The process is simple. You need to have the residential address proof like water / electricity bill in your name or any other proof that they require like property document etc which assures them that you live in that area. If you are renting the house then probably they need a rental deed. You may not get the application forms as they dont issue on daily basis. So better talk to the area supervisor in the rationing office and explain your situation. They will give the forms and get you the ration card probably on same day. If supervisor ignores then the office peon can help you and will show the correct way.

Once this is done, contact various gas distributors in your area for the time limit and apply for the connection.

Before that, ask the gas distributors if ration card is still required or they can allot connection on residential proof, as the govt. requirement keeps changing. In my case last year ration card was mandatory for the gas connection.

Coming back to our gas connection saga: I went to Indane and the girl explained me all this ordeal of ration card, voters card blah blah.... :rolleyes:

Later I went to Bharat Gas. Really, it was a piece of cake. I told them that I only have Passport and the rent agreement. They told me that they atleast need electricity bill along with the above documents. Hence, I waited for a month and later approached them with the passport, electricity bill and rent agreement.
Those who carry Passport as Identity card are supposed to get an affidavit done by paying extra 500/-Rs. You don't have to go anywhere. They only get the affidavit done for you. I got my gas connection in next 24 hrs!!! Jeeyo mere India:emrose:

Seriously, I know there is a shortage of cooking fuel in India but do they really have to give this much pain for new connection?

Another friend was caught with this ration card issue and the husband literally fought with them and told that there is no ration card in USA, how he is going to produce it to them? It seems they finally agreed and gave them the connection. But it took about 4-5 weeks for them. Looks like I was damn lucky in this. Just learn to enjoy these small surprises in Bharat.

Also, there is a new rule that we(wife of course) are supposed to take an hour class on safety measurement on how to handle cylinder, regulator etc etc. My friend took that class but I was never told and I conveniently skipped. Well they know I am very careful:p
