It's a good place to work, and their future looks bright. Their IPO was one of the most successful ones last year ...product maturity wise they are far ahead of Microsoft, Citrix in the virtualization market.

The company has been growing really fast since 2000, but they still have a startup culture. Their products are very complicated technically (think kernel level programming)- and people with strong tech skills call the shots. Basically it's a technocracy.
If you like that kind of work environment go for it.

The work culture is good. Most of the employees are young and dynamic. Nice environment to work. Regarding stability, who knows; they are up against the goliath, Microsoft.

This is in Palo Alto area. I suppose cost of living would be the bummer. Any thoughts on what to watch out for?

How about commute?

Any thoughts on apartments (1 br) and rents? also what the lease terms like in this area. Is there a month by month option after say an initial 6 months term? Are lease breakage terms well defined

thx

VMWare lost 26 dollars yesterday and is now trading at $56. Insiders can exercise options starting Feb 15.

Are you married and do you have school going kids? If you do not have school going kids you do not need to worry much regarding accommodation.

Hi sundarpn,
This is what I heard about VMWare..

1. Very technical work and the product is also very successful as everyone knows now..
2. Work culture seems to be very informal and chance to work with some of the smartest engineers (This, I heard from others and also felt during my interaction (my interview) with them. I am expecting to receive offer very soon)
3. But it seems they are growing very fast and they are not efficient in managing all the new growth (both new employees as well as the interaction with other industry partners)

Good luck...
