New Graduate wanna to R2I?

Post by iamdon »

Hello group,
I am thankful to the owner of this forum which has given opportunity to discuss such a topic which is already so complex.

Now I put my dilemma..

My profile :-

B.E (COMPUTERS)---GOOD PRIVATE COLLEGE FROM PUNE IN 2004

Work exp in R&D IN IIT BOMBAY AND TIFR,MUMBAI MARCH 2005--March 2006 (C/C++)

M.S (COMPUTER SCIENCE From Georgia Tech top 5 ) ---May 2008 (yet to graduate)

3 months Summer Internship exp at prestigious R&D lab in USA
(C/C++)
I am interested in going back to Pune after my MS...And I got interviewed for company in USA for Pune location (US based total employee 1000-1200 worldwide)

The job is J2EE related which I have no prior experience.

Still he is interested in hiring me.

I have 50K $ job offer in USA ...

To be very frank how much can I expect ?? I do not want to ask more as I know I am on weaker side....

Please help.

Thanks.

Sorry that I am replying with out answering your question. I think you should work in US for some time before R2ing if your personal situation permits.

$50K is a good offer. Once you get 1-2 paychecks, sign up for a flat in Pune and work towards paying it off.

You can plan to R2I as soon as that gets paid off.

Hi,

$50K is bit less in US for your qualification even if the job offer is in some small city. I have sent you a private message.

Please also buy the most expensive house you can find so that you can make the blueridge builders richer. Don't forget to leave a tip and send flowers to them :D

$50k is definitely low. You need to be more aggressive in your job search.

Can't help with compensation numbers as I am not an expert in this + not very aggressive about salaries.

However, why are people thinking its not good to move right now. I think its perfect timing, Once you get used to work here, it will keep adding years to yor stay here,

Buying a flat and paying it off can be done in India also. There you will be able to climb up the ladder faster and career growth will be more. Here can make more money but in long run going to India now seems to be better option if thats what you want to do.

If you are in Silicon Valley, more appropriate figure for your qualification will be 85K+

If you are in a government research lab, like Lawrence Livermore, then I can expect an offer of 50-55K. But you won't be able to save much.

my 2 cents.

OP,
did you mean the offer is $50k for working in Pune from the US company or is it for a different job in the US. If it is the later, it is a ridiculously low offer. Even in late 90's early 00's the starting pay for a graduate from mid-range schools was atleast 50k in the east coast, non-main stream Tech jobs. In the west coast and boston like areas it was abt 60-65k. So it should be higher now. If it is the former, then it looks like a competitive offer. I wud say competitive because of your degree from a ivy-league tech school.

Dude

50K is a very very low ball offer. A fresh BS (bachelor) in CS gets that
kind of salary in (maybe) South Dakota.

here's a sample US salary for fresh US Master's degree holder.

Bay Area - 80K (average). lowball offer - 73K. High - 90-95K

East Coast major cities - 10% less.

Texas/RTP/Virginia/Atlanta etc - 15% less.

Someone is trying to screw u real bad by making that kind of offer.

My friend in Bangaloer gets $50K man. (bachelor's with 6 yrs experience).

Unless u are a complete dud with no negotiating skills, u wont accept this
offer.

Of course, if this deal is in Pune, then its a different ball game.

--Just my 2 cents.
