Leather Couch in Chennai

Post by Kannan »

I am in a process of finalizing leather couch and planning to ship it when iam R2I?ing . But last thing I want to happen is spending around 10,000 AUD for a leather lounge and not comfortable when iam using it in Chennai. I can?t make a judgment call from Melbourne as Australian weather is not Humid / Hot.

When I approached the sales team some say that the genuine leather (Higher grade, Italian high alps leather) will breathe well so it will adjust to any climate.

Did any one bought leather couch to Chennai and can you please let me know your experience when you use it in Chennai

o Is the leather hot during summer (As if we have winter:p )
o What about Leather doctors (repairs etc) in Chennai

Your advice / experience will help me in deciding to finalize whether iam going for a leather couch or Fabric (I hate to think that I may be forced to compromise to fabric :emcry: )

We brought home two sets of leather sofas when we R2Id two years ago. One set had already been used in the US for three years. The other one was bought just before departure. Both sets are still in good shape.

Shoes, belts, handbags etc are also made of leather and see far more abuse (outside humidity in the sun) compared to a sofa sitting in the home shade. So don't worry. It will last years here.

Decent quality leather products are also available in Chennai from Stanley Leather, Wallace Garden Road, Nugambakkam. We bougt one set for my office. That is in great shape too.

just as a suggestion ..please consider going for fabric alternatives ...there are equally rich and comfortable alternatives to leather. why be part of a cycle that hurts animals.

I would never use leather couch in Chennai as the weather is extremly humid and hot. You would be profusely sweating in that kind of a climate. Fabric or microsuede is a better choice.

One disadvantage with fabric is that it will get dirty in a few weeks. It is difficult to clean stains, dirt etc.

Leather comes for years. Easy to maintain and clean.

how about plastic sofas, a new stylish trend though they are very expensive!! Easy to clean and have better looks but not as comfortable as leather

Thanks all ...

I agree that Fabric is good but it doesn't give the feeling and comfort of Leather sofa .. Any one from chennai who are experiencing difficulties due to humidity and heat (first hand experience) ??

Washable slipcovers keep the sofa clean and are easy to change with the rest of the decor. I agree with river98 about avoiding leather items when humane alternatives are available. Comfortable fabric choices are plenty in the market.

This forum is a mine of information. I have a leather sofa which I got from the US. well maintained and all but it gets quite dirty because it's beige. I want to upholster to fabric, on top of the leather. Any suggestions on where I could do that in Chennai?
