What would be the best option for a person R2Iing. Find a job and move there with a job or move there and start looking for a job. Based on the current job market.

Based on the current job market in India, it is better to find a job from abroad (if at all possible) before R2Ing.

Find a Job and then move. To negotiate you need something in hand. Also if you land in India people can ask questions on why you are here. Whether you were terminated ?

Also if you are okay with it take a job in any city and then within a year you can move to teh city of your choice. Moves within India are easier.

For me I had to return to Bombay/pune. But I have seen people who have landed plum jobs in bangalore and then moved back to pune and were able to negotiate better.

In India people will think that people are returning back due to bad market in US, and they will not show importance, they dont know that many people plan to return for other reasons, but recuiters in India think as if India is a dream land to work and people are dieing to come back to India, this is how they approach first, my advice is never show much interest , contact them but if you do not see company or recruiters showing no interest leave them, and wait, never follow up with them, its waste of time

It depends on your financial and other obligations , your financial strenght, the urgency of going to India, the city and area of work you are planning to work, for e.g IT or non IT, if IT then which technology etc etc. So there is no simple answer, if you can give more idea about those ponts I mentioned it will become more easy for you yourself to know when to go.

Hello. I am planning to return next year. I can not get company transfer because we don't have operations in India. Honestly speaking I don't want to change my job now to a company which has operations in India, for this short period(Under an year) - my current job is good.

I am also in a quandary fopr job hunt, on R2I. Probably I need to start contacting Indian recruiters 4-6 months before I actually R2I. Thinking loud here. What are your take?

I am visiting India next week. I will try to talk to few old contacts and get info.

dhr;91638It depends on your financial and other obligations , your financial strenght - > decent strength, Can be without a job for 2-3 months before getting frustated
the urgency of going to India -> planning to go in May as it would be ideal for kids to start schooling in June,
the city and area of work you are planning to work -> Chennai/Bangalore/Hyd in that order, IT Software development, Sr Manager types, Java/J2EE etc. Has been in US for 12 years and 10 years in a major healthcare organization
