Hi
An Indian MNC made me a job offer in NJ at 100k. I have over 10 years of experience in BI and data warehousing. They mentioned this as level "C1" and "onsite co-ordinator". I have been working as a contractor for all these years and just wanted to get some project management experience. That's why decided to work for an Indian company.Any comments about salary, job title etc..
Any help is appreciated.

what help or comment you are wanting, you already said you are wanting PM experience, so you are trading money for that, 100K is not a good amount in NJ but its not bad as well in todays market, if you are getting what you are looking in terms of job satisfaction and role then yes go for it
you are the best judge

Hi
Do you mind letting me know which company and what this C1 really means? I am also contemplating an offer form such company on a similar role where I'd managing the project from on-site.(and my experiecne si also similar - US masters & 10 yrs exp). I've been trying to understand what the typical levels of jobs that the indian IT majors have as I have never worked for them. Any info will be appreciated. I wnat to make sure that I get in at the right level, so that i dont suffer in the long run.
Thanks

you will be surprised , how Indian companies work irrespective of levels you join, and what is right level, and whether it does exist or not, your definition will change with experience. also since you mentioned onsite coordinator be prepared for 24*7 timings, whatever salary 100k etc is being offered is for 24*7 when it comes to onsite offshore model. best of luck

What did you mean by "your definition will change with experience "?
I agree on the 24x7 you are mentioning. I have seen people.
For me, the good thing is that I'll be handling only the business part and a third pary vendor (who's not in india). So at least for the next one year, it's not going to be a 24x7.
I am just interested in getting to know a bit about the structure and & job levels - because once you work in an Indian I.T. major, otheres also are going to judge by that job title when I move in future -either in US or in India.

Thanks for your reply. My concern is that is this right decision. Am I going to get project experience or lot of headaches and blame games, politics. My life as a consultant is happy, 9 to 5 job.No work on weekends. Ofcourse no responsibilities also. To just do what the manager asks me to do. As I have been doing this for 10 years geting little bored.

Me either. No clue about what this means. When I googled on it, came back with little inof that it is a "expert/consultant/manger" kind of role. The company is based out of Blore.

working as consultant and as a onsite manager are two different directions rather opposite all together, but dont start with assumption of headaches, pains etc etc, you need to be prepared to handle those rather than thinking whether you will get those, you will definitely get all those you mentioned in this job the quality is to manage those stresses, you need to try and then work on those issues when you get

Thanks for your encouraging words. I only hope that in the name of project experience , I am not going to get nightmare. Anyhow I will try my best and if at all it does/nt work , I can always fall back on my consultant role.
Anybody who actulally working in this kind of role can you please chip in.

What is your objective. Do you want to R2I as a manager ? Then it is a good choice. Depending upon the MNCs desperation you could negotiate upto 110 K. Let me knwo which company and I can tell you. typically wipro infy and satyam will give this kind of money. Infy ... I dont know ...they think that 75-80 K is a great salary :)
I am assuming your offer is from wipro because they have these kind of grades like C1. (I could be wrong). If you are working for wipro try to see if you get C2. May be difficult but worth a try.
Expect your personal life to be messed up. Calls late in teh morning and evening. Your boss calling you at odd hours to ask you silly questions. Increased pressure on you to increase the number of billable people. Following up on the mindless RFPs you submitted. Infy TCS Satyam wipro are famous for that. I never worked for any of them in the US but I had friends from those companies who used to rush out of potlucks to attend these calls. There was a big difference in the work life balance of those who worked for US companies and those who worked for Indian ones :)
But then writing RFPs and PM experience is what you can hope to get. You can do that for a year and then evaluate your options
