Contact the Laptop vendor (HP, Dell etc.) and they should be able to provide you more details. They probably would send you a self addressed courier label and have it shipped over to them, then provide you an estimate and get it repaired for you.

If you are in Hyderabad, I suggest going to Aditya Trade Centre in Ameerpet. There are many laptop repair stores there and pretty cheap too.

Thanks hope4best! My laptop is well out of warranty and since it is prehistoric (bought in 2004), spare parts can't be found easily. Probably a local repair person will do it but I don't know of any reliable ones around.

Thanks kkr! Another place is Chenoy Trade Centre. But I have same problem at both locations - I don't know of any reliable/trustworthy vendor.

Do you know what is wrong?
Does the laptop not switch on at all or the hard disk does not whirl or the screen does not twinkle?
That may give a clue to what type of repairer is required.

Need to be a little more detailed, please.

How do you know that the motherboard is dead. The powr surges usually takeout the adapter first. Have you tested the adapter?

The adapter is working fine. It goes off when connected to laptop. Three different technicians independently confirmed that motherboard is dead. Finally I got it fixed through one of them who charged Rs. 3,500/- with internet still not working. The technician looked decent but I am not sure if I trust him yet. So I still have this Tablet PC which needs to be fixed...
