Help with planning Orlando, Disney world trip

Post by stup123 »

I am thinking of taking my parents to Disney world for new year eve.
We stay in South FL,so would be driving..since its Dec(I know its FL but its still cold and being close to new year I expect the parks to be packed)
My parents can neither speak or read English..I am thinking of skipping Universal and restricting to Disneyworld.
What parks do you folks think parents from India would like.I am taking out Epcot, too much to walking to do

appreciate any inputs on this

Is this the first time your parents are visiting Disney theme parks?
Epcot may be ok but I would prefer Universal Studios.

We went last month to Magic Kingdom. This was the first time for my parents and my 2 kids. My parents did not like as most of the attractions were for kids and space ride etc.. were too risky for them to take.

I have not been to Animal Kingdom. 2 of my colleagues who visited in the last 3 months does not have good reviews about AK. So your choice would be limited to Disney Hollywood, Epcot or Universal.

2 years back I took my parents to Universal and they actually liked it. So you may want to consider.

Check the following website for more info about theme parks and users review.

First, would you be able to change it to first week of Jan instead of New Year Eve? . You would be able to cover the rides / shows in half the time, if you go after Jan 4/5th. IMO, New Year eve is the most crowded (any day between Dec 24-Jan 2nd for that matter).

If you ask for my order of preference, it would be (I took my parents in 2007 and it would probably be the same)

1) Magic Kingdom
2)Epcot.
3)Hollywood Studios
4)Animal Kingdom.

Epcot is huge but the crowd is well dispersed because of it's size.

Instead of Animal Kingdom, you can try Busch Garden, Tampa. I feel Disney messed up this one. It's neither a Theme Park nor a zoo :). Busch Gardens, Tampa does a better job in this regard.

Myself, wife & kids enjoyed Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Both has medium sized rides with plenty of shows to cover. I took my in-laws to Seaworld which they liked very much even without getting on any rides. IMHO, I would suggest seaworld for elderly as they have some awesome shows around this time of the year and Magic kingdom if they don't mind walking. Please be sure to take nice winter jackets, walking shoes, gloves and rain coats. Hollywood is not worth the $$$ IMO.

Have fun & happy New Year!

Thanks for all advices.I presume it will be Magic Kingdom and Hollywood studios.
My parents might like Animal Kingdom/Busch Gardens/Sea World etc..but I can never enjoy a show that has animals. No matter how good they are,I can never ever enjoy animal shows..and always think about what might have gone into the training.

If you are going to Hollywood Studios, don't miss Fantasmic (Laser + Fireworks show). It's not on all days, so you would have to plan accordingly. Go an hour early for the show, otherwise it would be standing room only. The stadium is huuuge but gets filled up almost all the time.

If there are any FL residents out there,
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/florida-resident-tickets-passes/

Disney has brought back the 4 day park pass special offer for FL residents. Of course like everything else the cost has gone up from $99 to $119, but still a great deal if you will use the tickets.

Florida Residents can purchase the 4-Day Wild 4 Disney Pass from January 2, 2011 - May 22, 2011. Each 4-Day Wild 4 Disney Pass ticket allows you to visit one Theme Park per day for $119.00 plus tax. Florida Residents can also add the Park Hopper Option and the Water Park Fun & More Option to enjoy even more flexibility.

There is a one week blockout for usage April 17, 2011 - April 24, 2011. Ticket expires May 26, 2011.

When you order Florida Resident tickets, you will receive an exchange certificate in the mail. Redeem the exchange certificate at any Walt Disney World® Theme Park ticket window by presenting the exchange certificate and valid photo ID.

Tickets are non-transferable, are only valid during regularly scheduled operating hours and exclude activities/events priced separately. No additional discounts apply. Proof of Florida residency for each adult required.
