smells real low...does the CTC include a variable (bonus component)?

With 5 yrs of experience 10L + relocation of 3L is very good..What i guess is not good is 'analyst developer' designation. you should atleast go as a Team Lead for 5+ yrs of US experience. (MS/MBA doesnt help that much!)

Sriradh, thanks for replying.... The position is more like a team lead only but I dont hink they have seperate category for that... So the official title would be that of Analyst Developer. Also, the relocation of 3 lakhs is for 2 person, so it is like 1.5 per person.... do you still think that 1.5 lakh relocation package is good?

From the company's perspective, 3L is a Cost to the Company because he is hiring you. So it would not really matter how many people are getting relocated with you. But where you would have problems is after a year or so during your appraisal, you'd probably get 1L at the max as an increment which would put you to a low salary of 11L for a 6 yr experienced person (and I guess that was oasis's concern as well). So ask your employer to offer you 13L as the salary and you take care of your relocation.

good luck!

I just checked salary on the glassdoor.com for Analyst developer position -- It seems to match what they are offering you

http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Goldman-Sachs-Bangalore-Salaries-EI_IE2800.0,13_IL.14,23_IM1091.htm

but I think you might want to tell them you seek to be Sr. Analyst Developer (which has a little higher comp).

Bottomline, the offer seems decent and I would think u are lucky to have an offer in hand before R2I

Thanks everyone for replying back... Looks like I am not a nice negotiator as this is their final offer and not willing to revisit the numbers at all...

Now I am confused if I should accept or not... I am interested since it is GS, other than that reading your comments looks like the package is on the lower end. Should I accept it? I have never worked in India and so am out of touch and have no idea as to what is general package offered to an IT guy with 5 years experience in india... also am very interested in knowing how GS package should compare to other service companies like Infy and Wipro... how much TCS/Wipro/Infy pay for 5 years exp developer?

Also, can someone please comment on whats the cost of living in Bangalore... will 10 Lakhs per annun be good for comfortable living for a family of 3?

I think that you should accept the offer. It does seem very low, but the experience at GS will give you very good exit opportunities after 3 years experience. You need to make sure that they will not make you program in their proprietary programming language. GS has two development tracks. One uses C++. The other track which is their main track uses their proprietary development language. In this case, your tech skills will become rusty and you will have lot of difficulty to move to any other company.
This Rs. 10 lakhs offer is what Microsoft, Oracle, and Google are paying to fresh people from IIT. It does seem to be very low, but GS is a very good paymaster. What they do here in USA is they give low base (say $200 K) and then at end of year, they suddenly give $400 K bonus. Maybe they will do the same thing in India. You can try to ask other IT people at GS what is bonus percent that they get. I don't think you should be concerned too much about salary because GS has got reputation to be a very good paymaster. It is very likely that if you perform well, they will suddenly give you Rs. 12 lakhs cash at end of year like what they do in USA.
The main thing is whether you have to program in their proprietary development language or not.

You havent mentioned what is your domain in IT and what kind of experience you have (companies, profile etc). I think people who have advised you in this thread are just going by their assumptions and its not going to help you.

That said I think you have some space for negotiations left here. As someone said asking for a Sr. Analyst developer position wont harm you but you need to bring the value during the negotiation. I would strongly recommend that you do that. At the most they can refuse you the higher position.

The package is not bad to begin with and though it may look at lower side the relocation package is good. Not sure if they lowered the salary package to absorb relocation in the overall compensation.
