My silly question on Indian Finance & Investments

Post by geethbala »

Hi,

I am not much experienced in investing. I just recently started getting interested in purchasing plots for investment purposes. My goal is to stay invested and save for retirement .

My question is will it be sufficient if i ONLY keep purchasing plots (Do real estate based investment ONLY).
Or should i invest in mutual funds, stocks, bonds also.

What would be the cons if i donot invest in bonds/funds and invest only in plots/flat.

Pls enlighten

I have several silly questions after trying to understand tax implcations for USC post R2I.

1) What if I do not want to withdraw from my 401K rolled over to an IRA and want the IRA to "grow" till I reach the retirement age ? The reason I do not want to withdraw is I don't need the money now and want to continue investing in US. Also if for any reason I want to R2A post R2I I can continue to invest from where I left off. Another silly question as a part of this silly question is after RNOR period is over if I go back to US and live for > 6 months and then take IRA distributions, move back to India will I still be subject to taxes from GOI ?

2) What to do with individual stocks bought in US ?If the stocks are doing should you sell all/some of them during your RNOR period ?

3) Has any one bought term life insurance from USA AND gotten a written confirmation by the insurance company that they would be covered while they reside in India ?

I really have the concerns around the liability due to loss of CC, as most Indian CCs have zero liability after you report the lost card to the bank. I provided India address on these MFs.

My silly question on Indian Finance & Investments

My silly question.

Can RRK Desi Bobus or Mukharji like experts suggest a paid or free web-site for Indian stock-market ?

I want to invest in Indian stock market directly (from USA) via NRE account and an Indian broker.

In order to research Indian stocks...I am looking for a site like google-finance or Yahoo-finance.
The brocker I am talking to ...has a web-site that's greared towards buying and selling but nor for research.

Thanks in advance.

I read http://www.moneycontrol.com/stocksmarketsindia/ for information purpose only.
It is CNBC india site but I don't trade in India. I asked the reletionship manager of my NRE account ,according to him NRI can not do day to day trading in stock market.

Thanks Mr. C
I know a lot of confusion exists on this issue.
I have asked ICICI, Standered Charter and HDFC....all of them have told me that as US NRI i am not allowed to invest in Indian stock-market ! And the next minute they start pushing some idiotic insurance product on me....After quite a few chakkar to these idiots...I found out that all these Indian banks who have any kind of "US-presence" are not allowed by SExchangeC here in USA to provide brokerage service to US-residents.....don't ask me why.

I have gone with a very reputed local broker to buy stocks....no problems with any accounts opening etc... so far.
Axis bank doesn't have any US presence and so they without questions opened a NRE and PIS ac., for the broker and me to use as transit ac...So all the ground-work is done and I am ready to start researching.
