Hi NRIIndian,
Good luck with your move. You said your husband's office will be in Kharadi area. Are you going to live in Kharadi area too? We are planning to return next year and are looking to buy Gera builders Sky Villa in Kharadi. Not many members of Forum are in that area and so never get much info about that area. Also, have you checked Lexicon International School in Wagholi. You can google it. They told that their school bus comes into Kharadi area and have quite a lot of kids coming from there.

Hi Rene
I am planning to return next year as well. Are you planning to R2I with either you or your spouse having a job offer or are you planning to find a job while in Pune?
I am currently trying to see what can be the best strategy...finding a job from here or looking locally when in Pune.
thanks
Jan

Hi All,
Even we are planning to R2I to Pune in May 2011. I cannot travel to India before that (I am expecting my second kid in Nov). So, targeting for the Nov -Dec timeframe is not possible. I need help with following topics-
1) How difficult/easy is it to get forms for schools like Abhinav, New India, Balshikshan, Millenium, Seva sadan etc. Do they give forms to any relative. Do parents have to be physically present during the process?
2) What about admission process overall. Can someone throw light on that?
3) Is Seva sadan CBSE pattern and how is it?
4) Which schools do you find better day schools like Millenium or regular schools like Abhinav?
This overall forum has been helping me a lot in r2i planning!
Thanks so much!

I will try to answer your queries.
1) In most of the schools it is easy to collect forms. A relative can get the forms so parents presence is not necessary.
2) By December forms have to be filled and submitted. By February decisions are made. During this time the parents presence is a must. This is true for most of the schools.
3) Not sure about this school. You should decide about the school based on the place where you will finally be staying because commuting time is the biggest factor.
4) Well depends upon parent to parent. Many parents like day boarding schools while some like the regular schools. So it all depends on your particular choice.

SandySun;169757Hi All,
I am going to settle in Pune with 2 small kids. Older one 5 and half years and second one, just turend one year. I am basically from Chennai and has been in US for 10 long years! Since my spouse's work has a branch in Pune, we asked them to "transfer" him there. After lots and lots of negotiation, convincing etc..they finally agreed. since my daughter needs to join first grade, I am moving with the kids with no place to live in, going to land in a hotel, then look for some furnished apartments and search for apartments...all by myself.
This is going to be a big step for us, espcially me because, I don't know the language, never been to Pune before, no house to reside, school admission is not yet done! My husband can join only after he sells the house here which might take him to join us only in august!
So, please help me to begin with.
1. School: I have Millineium admission. Is it a good school? One of our friend said, they will help in joining St.Helena. The surprising part is St.Helena doesn't have website (or we couldn't find it any way!). Please give me your opinion abt both this schools.
If school is fixed, I think I can manage to book an apartment from now thru some of my spouse's colleagues.
2. Apartments: Is there anything like Ration card or some documents to show identity to book apartments?
What else do I need to begin with?
Please Help.

Surviving without a knowledge of Bollywood is impossible. How would you spend your time otherwise? What would you say when somebody tries to discuss with you about whom Deepika is dating these days or with whom Saif is flirting? Scary situation. I suggest a crash course in bollywood with a daily dose of India TV, Aaj Tak, Star News, CNN IBN, NDTV (well, these channels do provide news as well).

Please do not get scared. Pune is a lively place to live in. English is highly spoken. Until you pick up hindi or marathi plain english will do. In your relocation needs we provide all the services to r2i folks. If you are interested please visit our website at www.maxproperties.org for further details.
Thanks

Of course it is possible to survive without knowing any Indian languages. I know lots of people (British, French, German, Korean, etc) who live in Pune, and did not know a single word of Hindi/Marathi when they got here, but they're not only surviving, but thriving and loving it. You will have some problems communicating with domestic help, but nothing insurmountable. Everywhere else, English works.

Oh but I would suggest him not to try the universal (hand)sign language with the domestic help. With the shiney Ahuja example out there, who knows how the signs might be interpreted !!!
