Retire in Mysore -??

Post by deccanchargers »

Originally from North Karnataka but was settled in Bangalore before coming to US 12 years ago. We do have property in Bangalore and some in Mysore. I'm thinking to retire in India and specifically in Mysore.. Every time I go to Bangalore, I feel choked..and totally refreshed when in Mysore. We do have some relatives there..

What do you guys think of R2I to Mysore.. A quite place, clean and friendly... Keep my assets in Bangalore ?? Only worry is, will I get bored with not many friends.. Anybody R2I to mysore and any outlook ?? Do they have great schools for my daughter?? Anybody REed to Mysore recently..

Why not outer Bangalore, like the north part? It is not as bad as the city. You will have employment opportunities as well. Are you planning to like completely retire?

We had driven to Wayanad once from Bangalore in 2007 and while returning we visited that Chamundi Betta, and drove around the zoo area and the palace. Our experience was that Mysore that day was way hotter than Bangalore, almost like North Karnataka and it was also crowded, the zoo especially since it was public holiday, full of traffic.

I don't know how it is to live there.

Are there IT companies in north Bangalore?

But not sure how long that location will also stay good, once commerce moves in, people move there in millions and next thing you know, there is traffic everywhere spewing exhaust.

That location has already started developing due to the Airport, isnt it?

In 10 years that place will be like south bangalore, totally crowded :( . Need to move to a commercially slow place.

There are IT companies in Manyata tech park and also there is World trade centre in Yeshwantpur, tallest commercial building in south India, where Amazon is located. The kind of opportunities you have in Bangalore, you wont get it in Mysore.

Lets not add jobs to the equation, the goal should be not having to depend on income while in India and hopefully look for a location where traffic does not make our life miserable. Obviously it has to be at least a tier 2/3 city due to security and infrastructure requirements.

Then, Bangalore is ruled out. Mysore is a good option to choose. Still the same easy going, calm beautiful place. Just that, it gets little warmer than Bangalore, during summer.

Hopefully it’s not worse than Houston, since it gets hot and humid for 3 months in summer.

i can live with heat if traffic and pollution is less.

For retirees , living in Bengaluru is punishment and probably some sin you committed in last janma.. ☺

I live in South Bangalore and working in IT but planning to pack up from this city when my kids enter graduation.

Seriously other than Sundays rest all remaining days you just cannot imagine travelling freely from one place to another even within South Bangalore itself..

If one falls sick on weekdays and for any chance need to travel by ambulance to travel to distant location then well good luck..

In my locality garbage contractors dont even bother coming on daily basis and same time I hear about BBMP horrible corruption stories in newspapers..

Traveling by BMTC buses Volvo AC buses are too expensive compared to other cities.

What do retirement people want : if its peace of mind, less traffic, less pollution, less expenses , less garbage problems then dont even think of coming to Bangalore...

Unless you want proximity to Bangalore, I would personally choose Manipal, Udupi or Mangalore. I love coastal weather and the whole feel of staying with the greenery around western ghats. It is a bit like staying in Kerala, but without the need to learn another language.

At one point of time I had decided to retire in India and had chosen Mysore as the ideal place to retire. Mysore even to today relatively very pleasant city. If my post retirement medical coverage that I have now had covered in India also than I would have definitely considered Mysore as my retirement place. Unfortunately I am not covered out side US and therefore I decided to retire in Florida. I would encourage you to retire in Mysore and big NO to Bangalore. Bangalore is one of the worst place to retire. All though I was brought up in Bangalore but the Bangalore of than and Bangalore of now has day light difference. Stay away from Bangalore to retire.
