Good hospitals in pune for pregnancy care/delivery

Had been planning on writing a followup on this from long time so that anyone looking information on this further is benefited.

After lot of anxious information gathering ( in the short time span available) we decided upon Gupte hospital. Based upon our location we had come to choose between Dinanath Mangeshkar hops and Gupte hosp. Had heard good/allright reviews on both. But we rejected DMH cause its a generic hosp and were very afraid of the swine flu thing floating around that time. Since Gupte was a dedicated maternity hosp felt that there was less chance of exposure to swinelflu.

Exp of Gupte hosp.: Found it allright.
Before delivery visits: Since it a renowned one there is always crowd, but they have processes defined well so did not face much problem there.
Visits nearing delivery: I was still visiting only even after completing fullterm( I guess after 37 weeks or so they start calling it as FT). I used to visit Dr. Sanjay Gupte himself and I found that he was quite patient with the timeline. What I mean is that he did not immediately rush into because I had compelted 9 months. Last few days I was literally visiting almost everyday with readiness to get admitted for delivery!!! But somehow it seems delivery time was not nearing.
Actual delivery time: Even though I had completed fullterm and my due date was already past, my labour had not started. So after quite some wait, they decided to induce labour. I got admitted in the evening and was on medicinal drip throughout the night. It must have been one of the longest nights in my life. The wait .... though continous monitoring was provided, it was nevertheless very tense.. Towards the morning I had started feeling some contractions and was starting to relax feeling that finally with all the wait and all I might have a normal delivery...
In the morning again doctor visted and gave the bad news that the contractions were not strong enough and took call to go for cesarean. Things moved pretty fast from then on and I found myself in the OT within no time!!!! And there, my baby was with me, though the time after is pretty hazy in my mind. Dont really remember my babies first few hours clearly.... :-( Wish had normal delivery and hence more alert without the anesthetic.
After delivery: Irrespective of the delivery whether normal or C-section they have process of being there in hosp for 5 days. During the days at the hosp. the doctors visits, sisters care and all is pretty much process oriented. Quite good overall. I liked following things in aftercare:
1. Even though it was a c-section they got(forced) me into movement on my own immediately the day following. I was afraid and had heard all scare stories of C- section about how being not able to do anything for many days, not breast feed, not move at all and blah blah.. But they guided me into moving and trying to return to normalcy immediately. Also no problems with breastfeeding. Infact they let the baby latch immediately in OT itself which is actually a good practise to establish succesful b/f.
2. While admitted in later days in the followup visits, doctors were pretty helpful to soothe out any anxieties/problems faced.
3. There was a physio therepist visit also, which was very helpful. Helped to be conscious about posture while b/f also they taught simple exercises to begin with.( now thats a different thing that the routine taught was not followed so sincerely once home :-( ).

Overall allright experience. I still have to reconcile with the fact that it was a c-section. Before finalising the hosp many ppl had given that feedback that maximum cases at gupte hosp are c-section and in the end it did turn up to be a cesarean for me as well. Though I had already completed 9 months and 9 days, I did not have any problem. My BP was normal, sugar levels normal, baby was fine, babies heartbeats strong and everything. Just that the labour did not start. I had requested to wait further more, but they said why wait and take unnecessary risk. Though my mind doesn’t accept this, my brain knows that may be that was right thing to do cause after all it was already 9 days over 9 months. May be they did the right thing, cause in the end everything was fine. I delivered a healthy baby and everything seems to be fine.

This site and your has been really very useful.
I am in the same boat as you did few years ago.
Being a practicing medic myself I am not quite worried about the air travel but definitely venturing out for a good obstetrician in Pune who will not perform an unecessary Csection on me.Will be returning to india for good when I will be 30 weeks with the second baby.
I had my first one here in the UK which was a normal forceps delivery and would wish for the next one to be smooth and normal too.
As we will be staying in Baner area there arent many options and the closest good option is probably Gupte.
Are there any other obstetricians u have come across which are good.Feeling rather sceptical considering the fact that u underwent C section despite inducing labour.
How was the post delivery care ,food and admin support in gupte hospital?
