we are r2i'ng to BLR in May. i went to BLR in March and went to DPS East and spoke to the principal and convinced her to admit my kids (LKG and 2nd std) for 2010 school year. they wouldn't talk to me initially and said that all the admissions are over, but i persuaded them long enough that they finally gave in. since my 2nd grader is november born, they wanted him to write an entrance test and based on the outcome they will decide whether he will go to 1st grade or 2nd grade

i tried a bunch of other schools like - NPS HSR (plain rude), New Horizon Gurukul (the building is nowhere near completion), Vibgyor (somehow didn't feel like a school to me) etc but I didn't like any of them for the reasons mentioned

good luck to all of those still trying for admissions

DPS charges about Rs. 20,000 as refundable deposit at the time of admission, which they say will be returned when you withdraw your child from the school. I just heard from an acquaintance that the school makes it so hard for you to get your money back that you finally give up pursuing it. Any feedback on this? People may even think it is foolosh to assume you would get any money back (refundable or nonrefundable), but my thinking is that if they are so blatantly taking the parents for a ride, how would it be with the children??

Try Primus -

I visited several schools, and the only school that I liked was Primus.

Any review please, on Auribindo school?

I liked the school building- looks like an old establishment. The playground was cemented, which was a negative for me. Other than that, I felt that the principal was rude and inconsiderate. I am not sure if this is considered "normal" in India. The school was not ready to reveal the fee structure till we sopke with the principal. I did not get to meet with her as we had already made to wait for about an hour after my child was evaluated. We got frustrated and just left after we heard the principal say that parents have to wait for as long as it takes, as the school staff are very busy with admissions.

Any feedback is appreciated.

[INDENT]All,

We will be moving to Bangalore in a week's time. Most of the schools are done with the admission process. Some of the schools we've spoken to are open to admission based on the availability of seats in the next couple of weeks. We are interested in CBSE schools in south bangalore (Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Bannerghatta road, Kanakapura road).

Please let me know if you have feedback on the following schools:
1. Presidency school, Bilekahalli
2. PSBB, Bannerghatta road
3. Jnana Sweekar School
4. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Bal Mandir

Thank you!
Maggie

PS: I posted this in MT Schools in Bangalore, but didnt get any response. Dear Admin, please delete if this is a violation.

MaggieM, I don't see any violations here. Hopefully some members will share their opinion. See if you can contact ChicagoR2I. He made an excel sheet listing schools and also collected some good info on BLR schools.

Other websites that might help you in this front are technacular and zeeksha.

Good luck with your school hunting.

I had already asked this question 2 times in this forum (may be not in right thread as I did not get any response)!

Can anyone share any information on D.A.V. Public School Bangalore? This school is located on Vasantapura Road off Kanakapura Road (Bangalore South)

We got carried away with the facilities (especially sports) available at DPS South and admitted our children there. However, we learnt after the admission was over that to avail of most of the facilities, you have to register for coaching classes conducted after school hours.

The school also charges Rs. 2000-2500 as Edu-Comp fees, which I was told was for a plasma TV in each classroom!! Well, little did we know that it was for the non-existent TVs!!!

In addition to all of this, we were ignorant of the school surroundings and were shocked to find several wire insulation factories. I went around the school checking the surroundings only after I smelt a tyre burning smell in my child's classroom when I went to meet their class teachers. I am concerned about the byproducts/contents of the smoke emitted by these factories. Does anyone have any idea if these factories could be giving out PCBs and other toxins. If so, I would like to withdraw my children form the school or transfer to another branch.

The outcome of our painful hunt for schools has been this...

PSBB is willing to offer seats for higher grades. I was impressed with the principal as I felt she was approachable.

DPS will admit students even if you approach them when the school year is about to begin.

Presidency school was willing to offer seats for higher grades, but we did not like to approach road to the school.

St. Paul's was also offering us seats, but we did not get many positive reviews about the school.

Aurobindo, which is a traditional school, and known to be rigid about rules and very hard to get in, offered us seats.

A few of these asked for extra donations, some others were charging the "normal" donations. So, it is not as difficult as it seems sitting in another country to find seats in the so called "good" schools. I would suggest that parents start school hunting after they have relocated.

Also, a couple of the schools required us to get a completion certificate from the previous school, so I am not sure how parents who moved in March/April are managing that issue.
