India has two distinct classical traditions - Hindustani and Carnatic.
While Hindustani music has drawn much influence from the outside, indeed, Hindustani music, along with Qawwali, was said to be a synthesis of various Indian traditions drawn with Persian music by Amir Khusro, Carnatic holds on to the strict devotional nature that is still common on both streams moreso than Hindustani does. Carnatic also follows stringent patterns in both raga and tala and is less 'abstract' and improvisational to a degree than Hindustani, preferring rather more recorded music, not unlike Western music.
They draw similarities in their laws of harmony and melody, as well as their intrinsic harmonies and general rhythmic patterns.

Here is one of the favourite youtube renditions of a Lalgudi Jayaraman varnam. Carnatic music has a compositional musical "repertoire", while Hindustani music banks more on an improvisational repertoire. Enjoy this rendition of the Lalgudi adaptation.

Famous Bamboo dance from Mizoram

his is the most popular and colourful dance of the Mizos. Long pair of horizontal bamboo staves are tapped open and close in rhythmic beats by people sitting face to face on the ground, while girls in colourful costumes of Puanchei, Kawrchei, Vakiria and Thihna, dance in and out between the beats of the bamboos. This dance is now performed in almost all festive occasions. The unique style of the Cheraw is a great fascination in and outside Mizoram. Because bamboos are used for the dance. people sometimes call it the Bamboo Dance.

Morchang

A favourite of the Langas is the morchang, a wrought-iron instrumetent, much akin to the Jews harp, which produces twanging sounds. Held between the teeth, the left hand keeping it is position, it is played with right-hand fingers plucking the projected tongue, the sound being reinforced by air blown from the mouth of the player. The instrument is capable of producing a variety of notes and weaving a large range of rhythmic patterns.

This is called Morsing in Tamil and it is used as a Thal Vadya in Carnatic concerts.

If you got fascinated by this and you may cut yr lips and tongue many times while attempting to play during the childhood.

Some PPL at Chennai who plays in concerts regularly.

Goes well with Mrithangam & Ghatam.

Rawanhatta

The Ravanhattha is a bowed instrument with 15 - 18 sympathetic strings seen played in Rajasthan. the main bowed string is made of horse hair, it can also be played with a metal drone string of the same tuning. The bow has ghungroos (bells) attached to it so it can play with or without percussion depending on the the bow technique. I bought this particular instrument from Jagdish Prasad Nayak the Player in the film.

Bhim sen Joshi's rendition of "aah'kaaram" was so forceful in the beginning of the first video, I thought if ordinary people tried it, there'd be a case of whiplash.
Thanks
