Your comments seem to be really useful. Do you know the admission procedure for Vidyaship?? I am looking for my daughter who will go to 2nd grade in 2011-2012 academic year. I would also like to get more details from you on these schools.

One of the many reasons for me deciding to R2I (Wife/daughter R2I'ed in early 2009, me at the end of this month) was that we wanted our daughter to undergo elementary/school education in India and not the US.

We looked at Ryan, Sophias, Delhi Public and Vidyashilp (could be VidyaNiketan), before settling on Jain Heritage. My daughter started with Jain Heritage in 2009. I was skeptical at first since they recently started the Bangalore school but I am really proud of that decision so far. She's 4 and a half now and (touch wood) can recite shlokas, has taken part in 2 stage plays for school functions, takes active interest in art, basketball, swimming, and gets personal attention from her teachers. She really enjoys her schooltime. The class strength is limited. There are visits to firestations, farms, airports, etc that are scheduled once every 2 to 3 months. There are frequent parent-teacher interactions and a couple of the suggestions we made to the school has been acted upon. 90,000 INR for a year but do not have spend a dime more. A school bus picks her up and drops her at the house gate, is served breakfast and lunch and school provides the books, schoolbag, uniforms, shoes, sports kits, et all.

I disagree with you. I am very disappointed by JainHeritage. I had high hopes on the school seeing their facility and hearing from our friends. This is our son's 3 week at the school and he hates it and doesn't want to go there anymore. Our son goes to the 5th grade and so far he has been hit by 2 different teachers on 2 different occassions. This is insane. He is one of the quietest kids and not one of those disruptive kinds. Dusters are hurled at children who talk in the class. In one instance the teacher threw the duster so hard at 2 kids that it hit the ground and split into 2. What if it had it one of them? It is not one or 2 teachers, but everybody seem to be practising CORPORAL punishments. I saw 2 kids kneeling down in the assembly hall the first time we visited the school. That should have sounded an alarm bell, but . .. . All teachers are very rude. One teacher called my son "You Fool" for not writing his name on a notebook. Today again he came home crying that he was hit by another teacher. The first time he was hit i spoke to the principal, but looks like no action has been taken. So much for "Acharya Devo Bhava. . . . "

Any parent who wants to join their children there may do so at their own risk. I am trying to pull my son out.

I am so glad that we pulled our child out of that stinking school. Second time when our son got hit on his back twice, I met the principal along with the teacher in question. They both denied that such an incident happened, making me believe that our son was lying. After arguing for about 30mins, like magic the yoga teacher recollets the incident and changes his story to - "oh I just tapped your son". :emdgust: Yeah Right just tapped. Now principal also changes her story to "oh he just tapped". That clearly shows that the leadership of that school is based on a bunch of lies. Right then and there I made my decision to pull my son out. LAter when I told our son that they denied that incident, our son is like - "Dad they are lying, and I don't want that school that doesn't trust me". Our son is one those who has a very low threshold for injustice.
On one side principal denies that incident and on the other side she tells me that she is getting rid of the Yoga teacher.

Our son says that hitting students is a very common affair by most teachers. Like - Hitting students with pencils, throwing dusters on talking children, hitting by sports teachers when students can't get something right and on goes the list. Who ever is glad about their decision to join their children in that school probably don't know the other side of this school. Jainism believes in non violence and look at their teachers. . . . . .
This is an effort to make parents aware of what happens in that school. A big booooooo to that school. Think twice before you take your child there. Don't fall for the facilities in a school. Big deal if a school has an olympic sized swiming pool. A school is as good as its teachers. Wake up parents and talk to your children that Corporal punishment is a no-no. Please ask them to tell you if they see or fall a victim to it. Please fight against that system.

A very angry parent.
