applying for reentry permit

wanted to get some information on when I should be applying for reentry permit.

My situation:
we are planning R2I end of May/early June.

Question:
Should I file for reentry permit before I leave ?
Should I file and *WAIT* till the reentry permit is approved before leaving the country ?
Can I file for reentry permit after leaving the country ?
How long does it take for reentry permit to be approved ?

You must apply while you are in the US and you also need to be there for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting appointment usually comes within 2-3 months of application. After that you can leave and the REP will be sent to the address specified by you.

I am also planning to apply for the Re-Entry Permit.

Just wanted to confirm that this done through "I-131, Application for Travel Document" ?

Is there a sample form filled out anywhere available?

How long does it take for the entire reentry application to permit-on-hand process? Please help!

I Would say a Minimum of 3 weeks to Maximum of 3 months depending on the State and the city from where you will be filing.
