We got an offer in Bangalore and were all packing up, selling stuff and when it came to book our tickets, the agent is telling me that we either need to have AP (advanced Parole as am on EAD) or we need to apply for a transit visa.
Really? I went via Frankfurt and Armsterdam a dozen times and no transit visa was required. Can someone who travelled recently please chime in? I am in a rush as I have to fly out on 5/5 and join my new gig.
Thanks in advance.

OotyGuy;278373Sure - you can proceed and leave without an approved Advance Parole if you want to wish your greencard goodbye.
If not, yes, you do need to apply and wait for an approved AP.

This is what I did to get the relevant information - googled "german embassy dc" and then navigated to to transit visa requirements :-

Btw why rely on hearsay rather than looking up this yourself ?

Pretty sure London is about the same.

Mera-des, looks like, the link from #4, you can transit without a visa.

From what I know, only London needs that you have a valid US visa
I came to know last time when I wanted to book BA
I dont think you need USA visa for travelling thru Frankfurt/Amsterdam

Paris requires a transit visa as well. I still fail to understand why folks are looking for a transit via Europe, given all these unwanted requirements and the tickets are not cheap either.

What are the other options for someone living on the eastcoast.
Either fly direct on continental/Air India or fly from east coast to west coast and over pacific. Many people dislike flying 16 hours non-stop and the other option is too long and will become more expensive.
Cheaper to get a transit visa or fly through Amsterdam. Also a transit visa may not be required if one is flying on an Indian passport to India. Also the problem of transit visa arises only when a person does not have a valid US visa, all others do not require a transit visa.

Fly through Brussels (Belgium). Indian citizens do not require transit visas.
Traveled in 2008 with a expired H1 visa. No issues.
Please use this link to check if you require a transit visa or not.

East coast folks can fly Emirates (to Dubai) or Ethihad (Abu Dhabi) from JFK (New York). No transit visa issues in Asian Countries.

Amsterdam does not need any transit visa . I've travelled thru AMS everytime with and without visa ...No problems
I would avoid UK since I know that they need transit visa ..why bother going thru that place ...Not on my map at all
