Watched her play in semis in Stanford last weekend. There were a good number of desi people supporting her. She has really improved service and fitness. If she continues like this she will be in top 20 pretty soon. Let us see how the Sharapova match goes.

Yes I watched her play live in Stanford.
By defeating Hingis now, She has been consistently defeating 10-20 ranked players in the last 3 weeks (She only lost to Chekvetadze and Maria, both top 10). This is her 4th straight week! Thats grueling by any standard. Her fitness levels must be amazing. Me thinks she'll be in top 20 soon.

I watched her in Stanford final and she did not have much energy left to fight till the end. She had plenty of supporters as stands were brimming with Desis and Samosa smells:-)
Why is she entering Doubles at every event ? I can understand the non-stop US open series singles so that she remains within Top 30 to be seeded at US open but why doubles too? She has improved a lot but I feel doubles(non stop tennis) is putting strain on her stamina. She is showing finesse at the net but her serve is still a liability. I expect her to match her best grand slam performance of going to 4 th round at US Open if she is not too tired with both singles and doubles play. She has realistic expectation of to be in the top 20 in 6 months and her form suggests she is not too far from that goal.
Go Sania, beat people in Top 10 !

Maybe Sania has gone easy on the biriyanis and that is paying off. Her serve has improved though it needs to improve more. Recently beat Hingis which is great. I am cheesed off by people who criticize her for not being in the top 10. These people have no idea how tough it is to be get into the top 100 alone. It is already a huge achievement.
Likewise in men's tennis watch out for Somdev Devvarman, the current NCAA champion. The guy whom he beat in the NCAA finals - John Isner, reached the finals at the legg mason tournament in DC losing to Roddick in the finals. Devvarman reached the finals of a non ATP tournament in NY a few weeks ago beating top players along the way but is still an amateur. The government/AITA needs to support this guy as he has the best chance to make it as a pro after Leander Paes. This year he is still at college though.

Why is she entering Doubles at every event ?
Probable reasons:
1) To remain match-fit by playing continuously (has helped Zaheer in cricket)
2) To increase her career earnings :)
3) To increase her ranking in doubles too.
Sania Mirza and Women's Tennis
Sania is out of singles and mixed doubles in USO but is still alive in women's doubles. She lost to higher ranked opponent in the 3rd round in singles. Had hoped that she will at least equal her best her grand slam performance of reaching 4th round.
I still feel she can achieve higher success if she concentrates on singles improving on her serve and she needs better GS performance to go up the ranking.
On a side note, what will the Mullahs say seeing her doubles partner's wardrobes if they were harsh to Sania's dressing? wardrobe malfunctioning is waiting to happen any minute ;-)

More than the player she is.. Sania is an Indian photographers delight.. Aren't we Indians fans of the fair skinned and beautiful women first???? This seems so true in Women Tennis.. Chris Evert, Gabriella Sabatini, Steffi Graf, Mary pierce and the Sharpova's and Kournikova's...
What ever happened to the real Woman's tennis fans?????????? Haven't see anyone talking about Martina, Venus & Serena or Mauresmo.
Sania Mirza and Women's Tennis
Women's tennis in general always has the problem of style v/s substance and Indian fans aren't exception here.
That's why Sharapova gets more ink than Justine Henin, a player with more substance , Serena creates more buzz than Venus and so on. At least they have more substance than style unlike Anna Kournikova who was only style. Sania is also proving worthy of her hype but she will never win a singles grand slam unless she seriously mends her serve.
