Kannan Dairy : Melbourne to Chennai

Post by Kannan »

I have been an active member in this group for past 4 years and it was of great help for us ? and this group has been a bible for our R2I planning .. First of all Thanks a lot for all your support and guidelines

Back ground
Year Moved out of India : 1997
Living @ : Melbourne , Australia
Family : Wife , 2 Kids (Daughter ? 6 Years Old & Son 18 Months Old)
Reason : Parents getting Old and need to take care of them
Wife : Housewife (But really much more busier than Me ) , Take care family , Kids etc etc
Myself : Sr Management position @ Melbourne , IT , Just work in computers (atleast that?s what my Daughter say )

Background :

Moved out of Chennai @ 1997 and worked around 4 years in Singapore ? Had a great time as bachelor ? Moved to Melbourne @ 2001 due to a great Job offer and career .. Covered every corner of Australia and New Zealand , Great Country , Great Friends and excellent Food (Coffee ?hummm) . Enjoyed our time , travelled when ever there was a long week end ?

Lived life full , Great Neighbourhood , excellent Family ? What else you want in Life ?No regrets

Decided to move back 3 years back , but postponed by an year due to our new arrival ?

Planning

Bought a Villa @ Chennai and all interior works done . Decided to enrol our daughter in an international School as we want to give her a smooth landing .. We spoke with Gateway and enrolled her in Gateway .. At this stage the school promised that she is enrolled but can confirm only after talking with the parents and Kids (in person) ? I don?t have any issue with that . We will reach Chennai on 18th and will meet the principal in next few days ?

Moving

I am moving with all my belongings (beds, dining ,TV, Music System etc) , so booked a 20 Ft Container . Finalised with King and Wilson , Struck a deal for full packing , Moving , Storing and Shipment as we realised that packing with the little ones will be stressful . All went very well. King and Wilson are very professional and great to work with these guys . Took 1 full day for them to pack and one more day to move ?

More to come

Thanks RRK ... Those days (2006 - 7) we had fun when we booked the Plots , the plots were sold as if there is no land left around ... But saying that it was a good move ...

By the way do we have a R2I meet in Chennai soon !!! If not , can we have one ... ....

Kannan -
Nice to see that you have started your diary. I have known you as very actively looking potential investor in Hiranandani apartments @ OMR but glad to hear about your Villa purchase. Do write more about it if you get a chance - it might help me in my Villa hunt.
Cheers,

Furniture & Others

We went through the furniture shops in Chennai and Bangalore (back in 2005) , what we found was that either you get traditional furniture or get imported furniture which cost you much more than that in Australia . So we decided to take all our furniture from Australia .

When we bought house @Melbourne , the above decision helped us a lot as i can now buy the furniture that I want / Like

Other than my main profession (Management) I love interior architecture and designs & have did some interior designs for friends (Just for fun) back in Melbourne.

I want furniture that is different from the norm , stylish and good to look ? My furniture hunt , became a big challenge and took atleast 3 years before I finished setting up my house in Melbourne . Every Saturday / Sunday we used to visit the shops all over Victoria looking for some thing new / Different (Thanks to my Kids and Wife to accompany me in all those crazy days) .

When the market was right we sold the house and started staying in Rented property , Due to 2 reasons

1. Don?t want the burden of selling the property when I am planning R2I
2. Markets in India was going really crazy (2006 ? 7) and I want to invest in my home back in Chennai ?

We ended up buying ISHA Signature Villa (Perumbakkam ) , One of the good decisions taken till date

More to come

Welcome to Chennai, Kannan. We've been almost constructing together. As you know my villa is ready (well almost!) @KG Green Meadows. I guess you will be approx 20 minutes from where we live. Good luck with the move...Its a welcome change to see a diary from Australia. I have lived in Sydney for a year and loved the place. Paramatta actually. Train rides were awesome. We used to visit the mall on weekends and eat our lunch with pigeons flying around us and musicians in the background. Wonderful memories and nice laid back life. USA to me was at a far more hectic pace. Will be bookmarking your diary for sure. Hoping to see you and u'r family at the next R2I meet... (not sure when that will be though!)
