IVF cost per cycle

Post by its_mee »

Hi,

I am married and for past four years we are praying to have a kid of our own. Upon analysis we found that i am running out of sperm count and we are thrown with IVF as an option.

I am from middle class family with limited earnings living in chennai. It would be nice if anybody could suggest me an option with a good success rate and cost involved in IVF.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. You are in the right place with plenty of compassionate folks to give directions.

Unless there is more involved problem along with sperm count like morphology, mobility etc., do not go for IVF yet.. There are allopathic, homeopathic and ayurvedic ways of improving sperm count. In a case of male & female infertility checks, sperm count is the easiest of problems to tackle.

4 yrs might seem a lot, but it's not the end of the world. There are countless people who have tried much longer & found success without the test tube. Give yourself another year if the only issue is count. If going through allopathic, visit a qualified urologist. Plenty of herbs are available to help you out. With proper diet, exercise, no smoking/alcohol, and less stressful life (meditation strongly recommended) it is possible to improve the count within 6 to 12 months.

Patience & belief in whatever method you try is very essential. Pressure from parents & society should be shelved aggressively. Just tell people, you are trying your best. Give your best naturally before trying test tube.

If you have to go to IVF, it may cost Rs.1.5 to 4 lakhs per cycle, depending upon the medical care quality.

Good luck

Did u try wearing boxers in increasing the sperm count without taking any medication? This might work well in your favour............ Keep the IVF as the worst case scenario if no other option exist.

OP, Sorry, I have no idea about the rates but you will spend above $15000 in the US.

IMO, low sperm count is an easiest problem to find but most difficult to fix. You will have easy and great success with IVF with ICSI. It may set you back by a hefty sum but it will save your family from enormous stress.

Again it depends on how negatively you take this issue. To others (including me) it may not look like a big deal but if you think its a big deal then you will be seriously stressed....making matters worse.

I would say go for IVF with ICSI even if it stretches your affordability...When technology exists, why not use it?

Since the OP asked about India, Indian cost was suggested.

Dr.Malpani in Mumbai is one of the most well known clinics. their cost at $=Rs.40 rate is listed below. Don't know the date of the costs, but most would fall into the bracket I mentioned. Lot of cost intricacies depend upon the actual tests/procedures & medicine, just like any treatment.

Why not use it? Good question.
Some things I can think of:-
1) There is no substitute to natural conception. Emotionally that's incredible.
2) IVF is still 32 years old. There is still a lot of experimentation that goes on.
3) ICSI in particular for sperm related issues is not foolproof from genetic disorders. Google around for potential dangers.
4) IVF on an average is suggested for 3 cycles. Cost is a factor & more importantly psychologically very taxing for the couple.
5) IVF or any artificial procedure is extremely taxing for the female partner. Read through some support group discussions.
6) Risk of multiples or worse.. loss of pregnancy, premature delivery causing lifelong problems for kids and much more..
Lot more..

OP - Please don't get disheartened reading so far. It's a mature topic and as someone who is considering the procedure, you should know the risks. A doctor will and should tell you about the risks too.

OP

Please checkout the link below. A lot of good reviews from a friend of ours is the reason why i'm sharing this with you. They go though other options before opting IVF which is what Kirks and MN_OP are suggesting too. Good luck!

I agree with you as these are very valid reasons for why not choosing IVF and ICSI.
However, personally, I think the emotional toll of waiting to conceive is tremendous. Statistically, if a couple cannot conceive within a first year, their chances of conceiving naturally diminish significantly...not impossible but odds are against you.

IVF is not easy and you rightly said, it causes physical/emotional discomfort to female partner but I suspect that its better than riding the emotional rollercoaster every month.

May be we shoul dopen a new thread to discuss pros and cons of IVF and related procedures.

If you are very much into IVF then Kamala Selvaraj is the best AFAIK.

Thanks a lot friends for your valuable suggestions. I got a reference to Mr. BHATIA of Apollo hospital from one of my friend. Given the budget involved we have to wait for some more time to make sure we are physically, mentally and financially OK.

Anyhow, I thank each individual for your inputs.

Thanks
