Rice Pearls - Best Place to Buy

Hi,

Which is the best shop, in terms of quality, price and service, to buy Rice Pearls in Hyderabad? I am very keen on Rice Pearls, specifically.

Anyone with info, please write in.

Try Mangatrai Pearls....they've been around for a long time and are quite famous; once when we were driving past their shop, my mom mentioned that she heard about these guys since her childhood but never shopped with them.

Thanks! Do you have a specific location in mind? I've heard that rice pearls are good near CharKaman area.

They have a presence in Basheer Bagh (maybe, Abids as well). They seem to have opened a new store in Madhapur. The caveat with the area you mentioned could be that, due to the presence of a large number of sellers bunched together, there's a lot of scope for haggling. If you are good at it or ok with it, then you may give it a try. The other thing I'm not sure of is credibility. I'm not saying they don't have it, just that I'm not aware of anyone who's shopped there. On the other hand, people whom I personally know have shopped for pearls in Hyderabad did so at Mangatrai. The word they bandied about was credibility. So....look around and decide where to shop.

I haven't shopped myself, but people who have gifted me pearl sets over the years seem to have bought them mostly from Mangatrai, as that is the name on the box/pouches. It might be a good idea to visit all the three locations, as the variety & styles available or price might vary.

If there is the time and inclination, it might be a good idea to observe other customers for a while, as that gives an idea of how to haggle. In addition, it might help a bit to read up about pearls. If going to all three locations not possible, I would suggest the one in Pathergatti/Char Kaman. Weekday morning, preferably not Friday, about an hour after their opening time is best.
