Finally, its time for me to start my own kute little korner diary. So here's the doc on yet another *attempt* to R2I. Not firmly convinced, but yet R2I-ing.

Finally, its time for me to start my own kute little korner diary. Nothing cute about it though. My R2I plans probably come under the worst circumstances. As some of you good folks guessed, my needless triviality on the H&B thread and picking over mundane things in life is a cover up to the real issues in the real life.

I joined this forum many years ago (yeah the time that Desi was waging the war against the campaigners...) because I was thinking about R2I and what reality in India is. Still not convinced, by the conviction was growing by the years. I thought I was pretty close to r2i-ing in a 2 year or so. I wasnt convinced by the rosiness of India and "India is Shining" thats sometimes potrayed here, but it seems eventual - just like how Salmons eventually make it back to where they came from.

Then a tragedy engulfed my own family and so, I am r2ing. Things changed - big time. I dont think its the best move for me, personally, but for the remaining family members, it is the [b]right[/b] move, no question about it. As for me, I am happy taking refuge behind the H&B thread, and prattling about inconsequential things in life to shelve the thoughts away, but then there comes times when you need to do right by others. I have been moving towards the question of "whether r2ing? really r2ing? really? finality of it happening?", and I kept postponing the need for the diary. I didnt want to have an egg on my face if my r2i plans doesnt work out. But now it looks like things are falling in place, and its rather imminent. I am hoping that blogging here would also make me accountable :-)

So how soon? Rather soon; very soon; really soon. And so, the whole thing sounds sooo konfusing. These are the times that the search button fails to work, or that its too difficult to process and assimilate all the information, given the circumstances. Its difficult to think step by step during those times. These are the times I wish I would have my own personal BocaSearch Engine, or a "Talk to RRK and get the Answer" button, or "Annoy Desi with a question" button, and a "Yeah, do ask Bobus without doing a Search" link, if Bobus is still around. Btw, I was in India recently and considered it as a mini-R2I endeavor. Hence, my largely negative tone about India as I really began to contemplate the possibility of "Yes, this is where I will be in a few days/weeks/months and goodness, this is krazy stuff". I was very tempted to meet RRK when I was in India recently and just badger him with questions/kweschuns/kwestions and ask for "Whether to R2I?", but then, it wouldnt be right.

Simple questions befuddle me - do I need a container? do I want to ship things? Do I need a full kontainer? $5,000 bucks? really? Where to live? So I will attempt to document step by step the hallucinations I am going through and let you measly kohabitants of this klub swing into action and see if you can kome back with pointed (no pointed toes or sandals, 3M..) hints.

More or less, I have decided to do my own consulting stuff rather than look for a job. I did send out some feelers through my friends. People are willing and wanting to help. And perhaps, its best that I go to a regular job so that I can get to meet people and get side-tracked (no, not the purple and green stuff, 1M...Just food and fodder for the mind is all I ask for). But I seem to be getting good responses back from my old clients who are very willing to let me work from India - make more money, save more money through the tax advantages/ tax sheltering/etc). So given that, I am more or less free to settle down where I want to. Obviously, I am concentrating on Chennai (so I am going to depend rather heavily on Poofygoogle and VWBuggy for hints). There's a small possibility that I can do Bangalore or Koimbatore (now you got that hint, 3M?).

Staying in my parents house is out of question. I am trying to convince them that they need to overhaul the home, but they aint listening. I cant bring myself to live there, after being here in the US for so many years. I am not ready to buy a flat/villa in a township and so, I want to rent. There are three reasons for me to want to live in a township

1. The remaining family member(s) can go down and play with other kids. Not that easy in the SFH that we have in India.
2. The remaining family member(s) can enroll for quite a few classes in the township itself (Source: Kadalpura.)
3. Things that I mention in the silly chilli thread dont really intoxicate me that much - but jogging in the open does. Not that I am a great jogger, or a wonderful jogger or a kute jogger. Its just that I need my tonty minutes out in the open for my mind to slip into eighth gear and relax. So I need that miles around me. Protected miles - dont want the street dogs yapping at me. My old jogging "trails" are busy roads that I cant use anymore.


The trick is to see if such townships exist in Chennai. Am I aiming for the moon? Only Boca will know. A note to myself - need to talk to Poofygoogle about KG Villas. Following this plan will help us renovate our family home in the meanwhile. For now, I am looking for that wonderful apt/villa to rent. I am hoping to get some really nice comfortable home (modernized? westernized?) that I can relax and create that island I need around me as I R2I...

Ok, now time for me to read the VA_INdian diary and learn some real realities, instead of bunkering down in that silly chilli thread...

All very valid questions. Believe they trouble all of us and I am no exception. But overall give urself a date, and work in a time bound fashion. believe me if you have a date of leaving then no question you have a clearer picture. My 2 cents from my experience.

Good on YOu ... All the best for your move .... Check out Isha Signature Villas (ISV) @ Perumbakkam , if you are looking in and around Shollinganallur

I live there and personally will recommend it (There are Villas available and the rent is 25 K - 27 K )

But remember ... india do have same problems (got even worse) as we faced 15 years back when we went to US, So if you are comming to Chennai assuming that things have changed , I think you need to go through few more diary before you take a call

Just an Example ,Isha signature Villas is class on its own (Great community and excellent plan) but its all true till you live within the compound wall , before you reach the medavakkam main road (which is just 200 - 300 m) you will surely get back ache ... Why !!! Thats because our great planners have a philosophy that let people come and stay and then we will lay road !!!

So that's what India is , This how it was even 20 years back ...

Rajradio - Thanks. The date I have set for myself is between a month and two. A hardstop at two. Of course, if certain things dont pan out the way I desired, I might take a few more months. But for now, I dont see any better plan than to come back within 2 months and so, thats what I am doing.

Kannan - Thanks. I will check out ISV and their website. Yes, I am very tempted to know of more details, a lot more details. Yes, I am aware of how things in Chennai are - thats why I want to create that little island around me to help me ease into things.

Would be curious to know about inclination towards CBE knowing IT jobs there is miniscule. Any options you see there?
Weather, people, environment, crowd and every other aspects is a better option imo.
