Mumbai is disgusting

I just got back to Mumbai after a few months in Singapore and feel like I've stepped back inside a gutter. If the US or other cities you guys currently are in are even half as good as Singapore, why in God's name would you want to come back to Mumbai?

I don't mean to particularly offend anyone but just state the truth as it is, consider it a reality check.

Unless you plan on coming here to start your own sweatshop, call center or otherwise exploit the cheap labour, it just doesn't make sense. And if you raise kids here they will more than likely grow up to be ignorant douchebags with huge superiority complexes.

I understand that being with parents ranks high among the r2i reasons, but why not sponsor them to come live with you in North America, or move to a somewhat livable city like Ahmedabad or Gurgaon in India?

Many sane people (myself included) have the greatest desire to escape from here, and you want to come back?!

Mastan Bhai, relax, every other metro city in India has the same story. Some say BengaLuru stinks and some say Noida is far from civilization and some other argue that Chennai has cool weather when our freinds are worried about RE prices in AP if Hyd-Telangana split happens.

Wish all parents move to Amrica at the drop of hat leaving all thier comfort zone, sense of belongingness, relatives and extended family, talk in english, dress like Amrican , eat with spoon and forks, drive to grocery stores by themslves, go to temple while their kids are at work instead of waiting for them till evening, go for evening walk talking about todays special soap episode of FIL and DIL , financially independant, yes, this is 100% true since most old generation don't want to depend on their kids for day to day expenses, Occassional high ticketed are OK but definitely NO NO for day to day ones.

This is mysterious; where were you just "a few months" ago ? If the answer is Mumbai, then you may need to give it more time to let it grow back on you.

This is such a huge topic. "Nature versus Nurture" is a more genteel way of referring to the discussion of how IDB's are created. I am not aware of any special environment in India to create more than their share of IDB's. Have you any experience, information or data to show that India specializes in this ?

Sure, just go to any IB or CBSE school, or a "trendy" bar. They tend to have very fragile egos. I recall one incident when I was in queue to buy popcorn at a multiplex and a young yuppie there with his girlfriend started fighting with me, telling me to "step back". He thought I was trying to feel up his girlfriend. Neurotic is the word.

Haven't you lived in India ever? There is a problem with eve teasing that is prevalent. The young yuppie's reaction seems natural in such environment.

The sheer amount of filth. Open garbage bins everywhere. There's one just outside the road leading up to the Sahar airport. Extremely bad roads. Try taking a rickshaw from the airport to anywhere through Saki Naka.
The overpopulation.
Schizophrenic, repressed, rude, semi-literate, unhygienic & evil people.
The smell.
Pollution (this can not be emphasized enough).

I bit surprised at your reaction, as from your post it seems you used to live in Mumbai, went to Singapore for a few months and came back. I have found that Mumbaites will always love living in Mumbai, despite all the filth, crowd, rudeness and horrible weather. If this was your first time in Mumbai, then it's understandable.
