One of my friend was pretty annoyed with her husband when he showed his mother (on her demand) all his investment details to her..every single detail !!! the lady in question has another son as well but has not asked him to show any such thing(as he will not entertain such thing) neither she has disclosed her own wealth to my friend or her own son...
I kind of get my friends point...and i am not sure if i will be comfortable showing my own mother all my investment details....my own mother...hmm may be???? but .would you be comfortable showing your mother in law how much money you have????

Who cares whether you are comfortable or not, it's her son's money.

Well her son is someone's husband now and that someone might care, that is what OP is hinting at.

And that someone wants to exclude the mother.

Why the mother wants to be included if that someone is not comfortable in sharing? What does the mother achieve? Worth a family discomfort? not worth IMHO to know few numbers unless there are other vested interests by both parties.

It seems the son was comfortable in sharing the details to the mother. Why is the DIL uncomfortable in sharing the details? What's wrong with a son sharing his financial details with his mother. The mother gave birth to him, educated him, guided him to become what he is today to be able to earn that money. What is DILs contribution to this money except spending it, and creating needless trouble at home.

and what makes you think....that DILs only spend money? I know few who have funded their DHs masters/Phds education (myself included) and I believe they have equal right and say in their DHs earning and investments. If there are unreasonable demands/pressurisation they have all the right to have an objection.
Btw, Indian law says, all the husbands money go to his wife if god forbid anything happens to the husband so if the wife spends it so be it. why would anyone care if husband is not.

@ #8.

What is unreasonable about a mother wanting to know her son's/DIL's finances?

well how do you know that?..do you think only men work and earn?..even if its his money or investments..investments are usually joint decisions in the equal realtionships...when someone demands to know them and one does it under pressure i think wife has right to get annoyed!!!
