I've bought Preeti Mixie online from "perfectpeninsula.com" and it's still working after 5 years of daily grind. Just google their website. The cost is almost the same here if you were to buy a 110v mixie in India.

I had bought Ultra grinder from "innoconcepts.com". They sell Meenu Mixies and Sumeet Mixies which are good brand too. There's nothing fancy about mixies. Just buy one which suits your need and one for which you can get some spare parts like a jar or blade if you break/lose it.

I don't know about which is best as I preferred Sumeet brand, which is no longer making mixies, at least according to the salesman who sold me the Prestige mixie I have currently. It sucks and I wouldn't recommend Prestige mixies to anybody, though I have 4 of their pressure cookers/pans. Have heard good reviews from those who have Preeti mixie.

Buy it online. The price difference usually works out to be about $20-30 and is worth the hassle of not having to lug it all the way and worry about damage during travel. Not to forget the 3-4 hours of precious vacation time the whole buying experience will take in India.

the mixies which we get in india they dont work as well as we think they would..i hv asked around a lot and everybody has diffrent kind of mixer/grinder here in india but nobody seems to be happy with the one they have..i have philips one here in india which is working fine..but i find no diffrence in it than the one i had in uk so it makes more sense to buy branded one which is available in usa....getting spare parts and all becomes really easy...Most of the people in india seem to prefer local brands ..if it acts wonky they just chuck it and buy new one..other than that i hv heard that gopi mixer and grinders are good...dont know if you get them there in amrika.(actually i hv not seen them here in pune as well..out of stock funda)

If you're looking for just mixi, I would recommend Magic Bullet, costs around $50. This is one of the best I found for cooking purpose.

rajviD;349900Hey Raj,

I also went to this store. I have bought saree and pressure cooker from this place. They are having very nice collection of indian stuffs. They are having salwar kameez, sarees and other indian apparels too. I loved their collection. They are having different indian designer's clothes like Manish Malhotra, Neeta Lulla et cetera. People working there are also helpful and kind. They are also stitching and doing fall bidding at their store. This is the store on which you can find each and every small or big indian stuff. I love to go at this store for more shopping. I recommend you to reach this place once and you will love that. This store is situated on El camino Real, Sunnyvale, California.

Thanks,
RajviD

Hi all, I'm looking for a mini mixie, to grind spices / chutney-like wet/dry stuff. Tried two of these Mr.Coffee grinders and it goes bad in a few months. (It's not recommended for wet grinding, something I learned later.)

Any recommendations? Is Magic Bullet good for this purpose? I'd rather ideally have one reputed mini mixie (200W, maybe) without the fancy paraphernalia that MB comes with! Does anyone know if Oster brand mixers have a mini mixer attachment to go with it?

I took a Magic bullet (110V) to Japan. Never took out many of the plastic cup things for 3 years from their styrofoam dimples in the box. The small cup and the large cup and the two types of blades were used a lot.....just for wet grinding. It is not great for grinding coffee or any dry powders, if you want a fine grind; coarse grinds are possible. You would need a regular coffee grinder (Bosch is what I have; works nice, better than Mr. Coffee) for grinding fine for the Indian Filter or for an espresso maker.

So, I would recommend MB...pity that it comes with all those plastic things. well...if you are in the habit of making chutneys and storing them in the fridge, perhaps these are useful.
